I was looking up the requirements for application to colleges and found that I have to submit both of high school transcript and school report. I’m not sure what exactly the school report is and how it’s different from school transcript, so could someone tell me what it is?
School report is something that your guidance counselor sends to all the colleges you apply to. It’s usually one sheet that describes the type of high school you go to – size, rural, suburban, or urban, demographics, percentage getting free lunch, how many AP classes are offered, various levels of the classes, percentage of the graduating class going on to 4-year colleges, etc. Stuff like that. The colleges have to get a sense of your high school to know the context you are coming from. You can ask your guidance counselor for a copy of it so you can see what it looks like. But you don’t send it. The GC does.
The school report is sometimes called a school profile. It is something that your school will need to submit along with the LoR from your counselor. It typically provides information about your school, the courses they offer, average scores, how they calculate GPA, and things like that.
Thank you for the great answers. Now I perfectly know what it is.
Your school guidance office will take care of all this, so honestly I wouldn’t sweat it. Follow their protocol and you’ll be fine. This is your first application season; it certainly isn’t theirs.
