<p>Scholarship consideration, and eventually, priority housing. The sooner you know, the better chance for housing you'll have.</p>
<p>It's just an advantage to apply by the priority deadline, especially if you're applying for Honors, like me.</p>

I have a 3.5uw/25act (with 20 college credits already), very good ECs and what i think to be great essays. I also checked hispanic and caucasian if that makes a difference....what do you think?</p>

<p>Can you give specifics on why sooner is better for applying? Why not do regular decision vs. early admission? I do not believe housing is a reason as housing registration comes much later in the year and when registration for it opens it is important to sign right away. I have two students at the UW and am an alum.</p>
<p>I just spoke to an admissions officer at UW today and she said that the sooner, the better.</p>
<p>Maybe my housing comment was based on my friends' advice, rather than "facts," but from what I've heard, the sooner you apply, the sooner you're admitted, and the sooner you're admitted the sooner you can make decisions/be first to sign up for priority housing, etc.</p>

<p>I submitted my app today, even though I want my Dec ACT scores to be considered. And the admissions counselor said that it would be in one's best interest to get their app in as soon as they can.</p>
<p>Oh, and UW doesn't do EA, they just have a priority date of Dec 1st.</p>

<p>The housing application comes up on line on a specific date. After you are admitted, when the date is finalized they let accepted students know of the date. ON this date, sooner is definitely better than later.
Last year the housing app date was the end of March, I believe. So if you want any choice in housing, or even housing for that matter, get your app in asap! A lot of kids don't hear until April, and that puts them at a disadvantage.
Last year UW guaranteed all frosh housing - but according to freshman D (who sent her app in early!!!) there are kids in forced triples that look the size of singles and some pretty weird housing arrangements. So get that appliction in. Once the rush starts after the holidays, it will take quite a while to hear. Last year D had hers in by Thanksgiving and an answer by Christmas. A couple of others I know had theirs in by Dec. 1 and heard in early Feb.</p>

<p>KBaher, don't count on getting an answer by Dec. 1. If you are hoping to know you are going to UW by then so that you don't have to fill out any more applications, that's a bad plan.</p>
<p>On housing: definitely get your application in on the very first day it's open. Do not delay.</p>
<p>Nah, that's not my plan. I've already applied to 4 other places. And I have about 5 left to do, which will be completed regardless of whether I get accepted at UW or not.</p>

On the UW admissions website in the FAQ area, it states that the Dec. 1 date is called a "priority" deadline and is "especially important" to students who want to be considered for merit scholarships or honors programs. Interesting that it doesn't say that it is a mandatory deadline....but it's probably a good idea to get the application in early if it is impressive enough to be considered for merit $$$ or honors. Admissions probably needs as much time as possible to get thru those options.</p>

<p>You guys are saying that sonner is better, but does that only apply to very strong candidates? I'm a rather average oos candidate who is no asking for any fin. aid...Should I still apply early? I'm ready to submit my application, but I'm afraid if it's a disadvantage for me beacuse the pool might be a lot stronger than regular decision pool since the applicants would probably be mainly strong candidates seeking scholarships...HELP!</p>

I see what you are thinking, but remember-there really isn't any "regular decision" pool. It's simply that the U-Dub takes applications until a certain date, but begins notifying certain candidates (I'm guessing those that are absolute acceptances despite how many other apps are received) after Dec. 1. On the one hand, admissions would probably be able to be less rushed with apps that are turned in earlier...but you are right-there are probably a lot of strong candidates that are looking for $$ (or honors?) early in the process. Not sure you can outsmart 'em. Just make sure the app is your best representation--and I wouldn't wait til the deadline-that's for sure. Good luck.</p>
