What is the difference?

hello ( my 1st post woop)

i am intrested in a number of universities but i am curious as to what the difference is between the;

university of alabama and
university of alabama at huntsville

are they seperate universities or are they the same?

thanks a million :p

xx

They are separate universities. The state of Alabama has a university system with a number of different universities in it, such as: Auburn U, U of Alabama, U of Alabama at Huntsville, U of North Alabama, U of Alabama at Birmingham, and Alabama State University. The University of Alabama is a much better school than UA-Huntsville. It’s the flagship (the main research university in the state) and arguably the best one (you could make a case for Auburn University). Does that answer your question?

But why Alabama in the first place? I see you’re from the UK… have you ever been to Alabama? If you’re going to go to a school in the US, I wouldn’t recommend going there. It’s not that great of a state, IMO. UA isn’t a bad school, but if you’re going to come to college in the US, I would suggest going someplace nicer…

Yes, they are different schools. One commanly known would be the University of Alabama located in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Each state has its own operating rules for its public system of colleges and universities. Sometimes the UofX at Y is a BRANCH campus of the UofX. This means that your diploma and transcript will be the same no matter whether you finish your degree at the main campus or at a branch campus. Sometimes the UofX at Y and the UofX at Z are two completely independent public universities that determine their own degree requirements, and award their own diplomas. There are still other cases where UofX at Y is actually a private university, and UofX at Z is a public university.

Stinks, I know. You’ve just gotta do a lot of research to figure it all out.

Wishing you all the best.
