I was just wondering what the fly-in program is like? I just got invited to one at a boarding school and I’m not too sure what it means. Should I be worried that I didn’t get into it at other schools, is this good for me? Anyways, thanks!
Hmm. I haven’t heard of a fly-in program before. There was no further description? Is it perhaps a finalist weekend for a merit scholarship program?
Do you mind sharing which school this was? Like @Calliemomofgirls said, it may be for a scholarship. From what I’ve seen, only some schools have the program.
Normally, the school would fly you to campus and give you a tour and presentation.
It’s hard to say what the fly-in program for that specific school is without knowing what school it is.
And for other applicants, don’t be afraid if you weren’t invited. After looking up some info, it seems as schools have multiple events. The earliest to apply go to the first event, and so on. This also depends on each schools policy.
For the OP, you may get invites from other schools as well, just later on in the application process!
The school was Thacher. The information they gave me was, “The program is a great way to learn more about Thacher and hear from our Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, along with participating in an affinity group meeting led by our students”. It seems like it’s for POC. I’ve never heard of it before though.
It sounds like they think you are URM! Perhaps with data from SSAT? Or an affinity org?
Yep I looked it up - Thacher does have that program. You should attend it!
I’m pretty sure most East Coast schools don’t have the program, but I’m not 100% sure.
what is URM?
