What is the Harvard SSP Program?

I know it is a program for secondary students, but for the credit courses, are they university courses or like highschool courses?

Have you ever attended this program, or one like this? Does it boost your chance of being admitted into an Ivy League, as well, how did you find the experience, was it worth it?

Thank you so much!

No, I've taken Harvard HSSP. Its okay. Total rip off of your money. It does not boast your change of being admitted to an Ivy league because its fundamentally unfair for those who can't afford it to attend therefore this would weight an unfair advantage to richer ppl.

Um, yeah, I took calc 1+2 at HSSP. It was good...Wildy expensive, but worth it. I'm going to Hopkins, another friend is going to Caltech, another is going to Carnegie Mellon, another is going to Babson, another is going to Cornell, and there is one going to Dartmouth, ugh....The experience is good because I was more focused for senior year and I was more focused for highschool.

Definitely if you can cough up the cash, take it. Its just ridiculously expensive especially for summer housing. Like I was a commuter since I live right in Cambridge.

BTW to answer your question. They are real college courses taught by Harvard professors. You will be along with Harvard undergrads etc...but vast majority of ppl will be highschoolers buying off the brand name of Harvard. You get college credit for these courses and in somecases, you may even get highschool credit if your school allows.

Hey I took SSP last year. Take it for the experience, don't take it to try and enhance your chances of getting into a top caliber school. I did SSP, got a dec. grade in an intro science class and was flat rejected from alot of schools including Harvard and Princeton (same with many of my SSP kids). There are tons of kids doing things like SSP, so its not a hook.

With that, it gave me a good sense of what college life (to some extent), and coursework is like and I think the money (yes expensive) was worth it also. you will for sure meet some awesome people there. These are real harvard courses taught by a harvard prof with undergrads+high school students. Its probably the only time I'll ever have the opp to take a course at harvard XD. Oh and harvard courses are overrated, frankly while the courses were good they weren't anything mind bogglingly amazing (probably dependent upon your course).

I'm hoping to go to HSS for Multivariable, Differential equations and linear algebra. I will have a hard time coming up with the money though. I realize you aren't going to get a full ride, but how hard it is to get something like 5k off the total price?

You should apply for financial aid. I've taken linear algebra at Harvard extension before. Its alright. Your better off not taking it at Harvard and taking it at another school and saving a bunch of money.

Just apply for financial aid. Talk to Rita Pandry.
