I got $17,500. I am happy about it. I wish it was little more.

zerooooooo

Merit = 17.5K
Total COA = 100%

I have heard 25k for someone last year who did nt go to Rice.

Did anyone get the engineering scholarship?

i got 17.5

I got 17.5 trustee
and 7.5 department scholarship (i applied to engineering for com sci)

So, 25k a year. Which makes Rice the winner so far for my out of state schools.

My S got 17.5 trustee.

I received 22.5 Trustees, plus the 4 Century Scholarship (for the first two years). Best scholarship offer of all my schools :)

Congrats to all of you!

For those of you who received merit scholarships at Rice - What were your departments, your stats (generally), and what other aspects of your application seemed to be most relevant?

I ask as the father of a HS junior who may be considering Rice next year (for CS/Math).

My stats are:
ACT: 33
GPA: 3.98 UW/ 4.7 W
Applied for cognitive science.

and I am hispanic.

Thanks. How good is Rice generally with merit scholarships? Is it rare, or reasonably common?

It is not uncommon to get one although they are highly competitive. If you have excellent stats and get in, there is a decent chance you will get some merit aid.

My D has stats similar to sandrccr, valedictorian, same major, URM, national awards, however her brother attends Rice. No merit offer. I would have loved to have two kids at Rice but it seems having a brother was a disincentive for Rice to offer her merit money.
Congratulations to all of you who received scholarships! They really help! D is looking at all her options including Ivy and UT Health Science Honors.

Are there particular colleges/depts within Rice that are more apt to give merit aid? I’ve heard about an “engineering scholarship”, for example. Are there similar concepts for science, or other areas?
