What is the highest UC GPA?

Yesterday, I went to the college counselor to check my weighted UC GPA and was told it was 4.5; however, I thought it was capped at 4.4 because there are only 8 semesters of AP classes counted. Please clarify what the maximum UC weighted GPA is. Does ELC affect whether or not the GPA is capped (I read this may be the case on an old post).

Thanks in advance for your help.

UCB and UCLA use uncapped GPA. As far as I know the rest cap at 8 semesters. Average UC GPA for UCB last year was over 4.4 so they are definitely using uncapped.

ELC has no effect on UC GPA being capped and uncapped. As stated in above post, UCLA/UCB use uncapped as well as capped.

Thanks. So do I need to go back to the counselor today and ask for my capped UC GPA?

You can calculate it yourself.

ELC is based on your (presumably weighted-capped) GPA being compared with the top 9% threshold GPA from previous classes at your high school. It is not based on your current class rank as determined by your high school.

UC admission readers will see weighted-capped, weighted-uncapped, and unweighted variants of your GPA in 10th grade and later a-g courses.

As a practical matter, the maximum weighted-capped GPA is 4.0 + 8 / (number of semester grades in a-g courses in 10th-11th grades).
