What is the IGETC?

come on...this is just retarded...use google you lazy amish

go to your councelor.

IGETC is.......

something you should complete before transferring to any UC system.

Good enough answer.

not if you're doing any of the coes, haas, environmental design or natural resources at cal... or revelle or roosevelt at ucsd

ilovecalifornia you are mean, but I still love you.

go to assist.org and click on igetc on left menu and it will tell you all about it. then go to a counselor to figure out how it applies to you.

good luck on transferring

and remember, if you complete the igetc by the time you apply, you get a gpa boost!

For Business/Econ major, sometimes non-igetc courses may be more beneficials to you (in terms of knowledge you get + the boosted admission chance).

how much do you think it helps you?
on a gpa scale

I can't say it'll always help you.
It depends on the course you take.

you get a .0000001 boost I think.
you'll have to check with ilovecalifornia to make sure.. but it looks like the OP ****ed her (her?) off >_>

hahaha i guess i should've searched google or something. what i actually meant was do i need to complete it if i'm a bio major?

"hahaha i guess i should've searched google or something."

please do.

is bio major part of College of Arts and Science?

Yes. therefore, it is NECESSARY to follow the IGETC.

It's not 100% absolutely positively uber-necessary to complete the IGETC in order to transfer.

But it helps. A lot.

yes it is "absolutely postively uber-necessary" to complete IGETC if you don't want to waste your tuition on GE courses after you transfer.

Basically, once you complete IGETC, you are COMPLETELY done with GEs and you only need to take your major courses once you transfer. If you don't finish it, sure you can still transfer (since it's not a requirement), but you will still have to complete your GEs after you transfer while everyone else thrives in the major courses. Most likely you'll fall behind those who have completed IGETC.

dhl3,

You didn't even respond to what I said. I said that the IGETC isn't 100% necessary to TRANSFER. I didn't even begin to get into issues with lower divs.

Besides, there are plenty of situations where a student will still have to take lower div classes after transferring, independent of completing the IGETC. So those students will "fall behind" anyway. But keep in mind that not all majors will exclude you from taking upper div classes if all the lower divs aren't complete, and that many freshman admits will actually take GEs during their senior year anyway.

But it's not like I would know any better. No siree.

Yeah, basically. Like the American Cultures requirement at Berkeley.

Haha, I'd take the word of someone who graduated from UCLA and ended up at a top ten program in their field over the fool who constantly bashes top schools (like UCLA) any day of the week.

There's an American Cultures major at Berkeley?

WTH does that entail????

I'm not actually sure. It's offered in practically all the major departments so I'm thinking the actual curriculum isn't too specific (I think it relates to a general theme of diversity).
