I am currently enrolled in a PhD Engineering program, however I think it is too long and would prefer just doing a 2 year masters instead.

What is the latest stage that I can change my mind to fall back to the Masters program??(which is the same as the PhD in the 1st year)

Please see the previous thread for the follow up question to this...

Thanks!

You need to investigate your university’s policy about this. Some award a non-thesis M.S. the day you pass your Ph.D. comprehensive exams. Some require a formal written M.S. thesis before heading into the year or so of research/study leading to the comps. Some will hand you a non-thesis M.S. just for passing a particular series of courses.

A Ph.D. program is a long horrible slog - even for the students who WANT to be there! If you want out, find the way to get yourself that M.S. and then get on with your life.

Wishing you all the best.
