What is the Lit SAT II like?

To anyone who has taken it... What exactly does it test? Is it just basically a glorified SAT I CR/AP English exam no-essay?

It's much much harder than CR, involves poetry and possibly some drama.

apparently some have described it to me like "Critical Reading on steroids."

the one i took was very easy. i was stunned that i got only a 740

i'd say that it may have easier questions than the AP english lit but it is difficult in the sense that it is very time-pressured... that said i think if you are well-read you can do well on it.

You basically just have to know how to read and understand what you're reading. But of course, anything that tests your "comprehension" of something like literature is inherently a bit subjective.

It's harder than the CR SAT Reasoning and easier than the AP English exam multiple choice. Good luck and blessings!

^ agreed. Interestingly enough, I'm currently sitting on a 5 on AP Lit, an 800 on the SAT II....but a 750 CR hahaha.

I would say that if you're an avid reader, it's the easiest standardized test you'll ever take. I found myself enjoying reading the passages (yeah...book nerd lol)!

Well I am quite the avid reader so maybe I will enjoy reading the passages.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll check out the bookstore this weekend to see if they have any good study guides on it so I can get an idea of what it is testing.

I'm like 95% sure that it was the easiest standardized test that I have ever taken. Don't stress it, especially if you did well on the AP English exam. Honestly, I wouldn't waste money on a study guide. Save it for the application fees :/

Many people told me that it was REALLY hard, so I went in a little worried, especially since my CR score wasn't spectacular (700). Once I took the test, though, I thought it was REALLY EASY. To be fair, I read a LOT and that is my strength on CR anyways (the vocab is what screws me up- why would I ever use those words?). I beat my CR by a good margin on the Lit test. It is more like the AP English Lit test, but with much easier questions.

Yea basically its like an easier version of the AP test with the same type of time constraints. Most people consider it the hardest because unlike say math or science, if you're not naturally good at it you can't really do well just by prepping for it (not to say prepping doesn't help if you're already a CR type of person). I didn't do amazing mostly because I was a bit stretched on time (I got 710) but it was nothing compared to the AP English multiple choice. It's a lot harder than the reading part of CR but then again it doesn't have the vocab part which is the really killer part of CR so I can see people doing better on Lit than CR.

Yeah Hookem I totally agree, I actually enjoyed reading the passages lol! It was not very hard at all, but it is much harder than CR (which is a cakewalk in comparison...so if you struggle with CR don't take Lit)

Kaplan was the best prep book (I used PR, Barron's and Kaplan)

^ ugh see, my problem on both CR and the ACT Reading/Science is that I enjoy reading interesting stuff lol. I really couldn't care less about searching for elephants (Nov. CR passage). Also, the vocab sucks haha

^ you don't like the CR passages too? I think some of them are pretty interesting.

The ones I hate are the autobiographical ones written by women/racial minorities.... nothing against them but I go zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz when I see one each test.

^ YES. omg. They have to make the test "diverse," so they give us some random excerpt from somebody's trip to Africa. gag.

ok so honestly,im an international but my CR is 570 and my Writing is 660....would any of you suggest i take the Literature on the SATII??? i need to pull off atleast a 620

So I took another practice test. It's not hard for me... Probably because of post-USSR school system - here we read tons of books all the time, so I guess it develops the skill

anyone care to answer?

Definitely do NOT take Lit if your CR is 570
