How many points is the MCAT out of? What are the sections? Is each section weighted equally? What's a good score for one of the top 10 med schools? Thanks.

its out of 45. ive heard getting above a 35 is a decent score. ive never met anyone with a 45 though.

if it's out of 45, then how come USNews says the average MCAT score for 04 is an 11.7 for Harvard med school which is ranked #1? Y so low?

One kid at harvard college had about 42 or 43 out of 45...35+ is excellent for top medical schools.

11.7 must be the average for a particular section of the mcat...

studentdoctor.net

the 11.7, is the average per section....so the average score would be something like a 35, which is an excellent score. So, you need to score pretty high if you want to get in.

its 15biological 15something 13verbal

why would it be 13 verbal?

Since VR scoring only goes up to 13, the highest score possible is 15 + 15 + 13 = 43

Uh, the verbal is out of 15 like the other sections. Writing is graded on a letter scale though (J-T).
