Students will receive no credit for 70 after taking Mathematics 55

if I take this class after math55 I will not get credit, but what is the meaning of no credit,
can I still get grade after semester?

i was thinking of no credit is that if i take this class it will not count in my total units, for example if i already have 70 units, but after I take this class my total units is still 70 ,but I can still have my grade on my transcript, is it right???

I think that the actual letter grade will appear but it will not be factored into your GPA. At least that is how it was when I was in college. But each school may be different, so you better check with your school to be safe.

i have taken math 55 ,and if i want to switch to cs major I must take cs70 ,but if i take cs 70 after math 55 i will not get credit…so i talked with cs advisor today, she told me I must cover the material of cs70 which means I must take cs 70 even though no credit…i am just afraid that if i take cs70 ,the professor in that class will not give me letter grade, if so there will be no evidence to prove I have taken cs 70…so that is why i asked this question…

I would see if you can take it pass/fail. That would take the pressure off of you. And if you take it, for credit or not, it will appear on your transcript. No doubt about that.

credit is how many units you are awarded for completing the class.

say in your case, if you get an F in 55, you still get 4 units tagged onto your transcript and you’re that much closer to graduating (although now you have 4 units of F on it…)

but when you take 55 and then cs70, you earn credits of 0 for completing cs70. meaning even if you get an A, the class was 0 units… and i take it you know the formula for credit (grade) points = unitsgrade. so 0 whatever grade you get from F to A, will not have an impact on your gpa since it’s 0-ed out. (though for your major you probably need to “pass” the class [c- or bettter])

it will still appear on your transcript though, and obviously even if it didnt (as is the case you’re worried about) there is an abundance of proof (telebears, bear facts, DARS, etc.) once you enroll and there are no trails of you dropping the class afterwards.

either way, the cs dept demands you take cs70 even if you’ve taken 55, so just take it with a grain of salt when 75% of the material is a rehashing of 55 and you know this class

anyone feel free to correct me if i am wrong, but this is how i’ve always considered it. your best bet is to ask your adviser again to clarify.

professors always calculate everyone’s grade, regardless of p/np or letter grade status.

Regarding Math 55 and CS 70 in general, does someone who wants to double major in math and CS now have to take both courses, even though they are mostly the same and they get only one course worth of credit? It used to be that there was only Math 55, and it was only required for CS majors (although Math 113 was allowed as a substitution even then).
