What is the min ACT, SAT, an GPA for UM?

I have been hearing a lot of different min ACT, SAT, and GPA requirments for University of Michigan. Does anyone know the actual min because I cant find it on U of M's website. Also, if you dont meet the requirments, can you still make U of M?

I don't think any university has a minimum requirement as such. Obviously, the more selective the university, the harder it is for applicants to get in. At Michigan, assuming you aren't an URM, a world class musical perfomer or mega-athlete in a major sport, I'd say that a student with a sub 3.3 unweighed GPA and sub 1200/25 on the SAT/ACT has a virtually no chance of getting in. To have a realtic chance, I'd say a 3.6+ unweighed GPA with a 1300+/28+ SAT/ACT. Anything under that will make Michigan a reach.

If I’m “mega-athlete in a major sport” or at list the member of national swimming team in my country will my chances increase? And if yes by how much?

Yes, if you are good enough to make the Michigan swimming team, which is a tall order since Michigan's swimming team is one of the top 10 in the country, you obviously have improved your chances. Check out the sort of swimming talent Michigan recruits.

i'm the worst swimmer ever. i get tired after 1 lap -_- but i have no problems with any other sports. i'm just not meant to be in the water.

What if you have a high GPA with AP and honors classes and with ec activity but low SAT/ACT scores, will I still be able to get in?

Depends. Did you get 5s and 4s on your AP exams? If so, it means that you have abilty but simply cannot test well. However, if you do well in school but bombed your AP exams and your SAT/ACT, Michigan may conclude that your school is weak.

I took three APs which I got two 4s and one 5. I got a 790 and a 640 on my SATII bio and american history. I did really bad on my SATs and ACT. Do you think i can make UofM?

That depends on your actual SAT/ACT scores and your umich gpa

thank you Alexandre, you gave me little hope :) I'm the international student and can you tell me if the requirments are the same for international student and american students?

Does UM use different criteria (test score levels & GPA) for in-state applicants than for out-of-state applicants?

Or is it evaluated the same regardless of home state?

I think UofM has a separate applicant pool for out of staters.

WS, from what I have seen, Michigan separates in-state applicants from out-of-state applicants, but uses the same criteria to admit all candidates.

James, if you got two 4s and one 5 on your AP exams and maintain a high GPA while taking AP classes, I'd say your chances are solid, even if your stadardized test scores aren't good. But it depends on just how "not good" your standardized test scores are. If you mean a 1250/27, then you are ok. However, if you mean 100/23, you are in trouble.

DOLO, all applicants who apply to Michigan are expected to show potential. In that regard, yes, international applicants must meet similar (but not identical) requirements. It is obviously much harder to get into Michigan if you apply from India or Korea than if you apply to Michigan from France or Zimbabwe. There are simply too many students who apply from large Asian country and not enough students who apply from Europe and small underdeveloped countries.

Dont let a low GPA or test score discourage you from applying. Applying early and showing potential can help a lot! My friend said she knows someone who got in with an ACT score of 24 because she applied in August!!! If you're in a public HS or English isn't your native language, UMich will accept slightly lower test scores. Taking AP classes, committing to EC's, writing good essays, and getting good recommendations definitely help too.

I' m from Georgia (country) and very few people are going to apply to UM (max 30 students). So chances are quite big yes? and what role does TOEFL play in my admition chances? minimum score at UM is 220 and average score is 250. So if i get 250 my chancs will be greater or i only must get 220+ and it has no sence what score i get?

and if i dont send request for sholarship and tell them that i'm ready for paying full study fee, will my chances be higher?

No offense but is Georgia that small? How do you know there are only a max of 30 people applying for admission at UM? Your TOFEL is equivilent of our ACT/SAT English/Verbal score I think, so of course higher the better. I don't think by not requesting financial aid will help much. More importantly, improve your academic records, show potential, and apply early!

Yes Georgia is small country, only 4 million people. students go abroad mainly from capital. But the educational sysytem is different, no Extracurricular activities and etc. Students mainly aply to american universitys from my school, becouse it is the only american type college. My friend said that motivation letter is the most important thing, and is it true?? i'm going to take buisness major and i have buisness experience and will it help a lot??
