I know they have no official policy. But can you just give me an estimate of the lowest possible score which would still give me a realistic chance of admission.

This question is asked all the time on all college forums and everyone gives the same answer. There is no “minimum” and for William and Mary, I really think they go by it. I had a really low SAT and still got in. I remember someone posted that 1300 was the minimum and I thought I was going to automatically be denied cause I had below that but that wasn’t the case.

there is no minimum…

athletes on scholarship average over 1150. I used this group because (1) the information is available, and (2) they are outside on the W&M’s middle 50%.

Obviously scholarship athletes bring other skills to the table that are desirable, so it would seem unlikely for a “normal” student to be accepted with similar scores.

^how much chance do you think i’d have with an 1800(1160), if i were the captain of my school’s basketball team and won a major competition last year

We do not have a minimum SAT or GPA or any other minimum criteria. Because we want to build a diverse, talented, intellectual, dynamic student body we do not set forth any minimal criteria because objective measures can’t help us arrive at that kind of substantive class. We are selective however and the competition for spaces in our incoming class is robust.

The middle 50% of our students score between a 1280 and a 1430 on their Critical Reading and Math combined. So 25% of our students score below a 1280 and 25% above 1430. An 1160 is in that lowest 25% range so we would encourage you to take the SAT again. We do superscore the SAT and look only at your best outcome so it cannot hurt you to try the test again. An 1160 absolutely will not automatically put you into a deny category but it is a score that is less competitive than the bulk of our applicants which is why we would encourage you to try the test again.

There’s no way to give you any kind of chances based on an SAT and knowledge of one EC (although being Bball captain is great).
