Looking to take engineering in Germany after this school year ends, I’m wondering which major is the most profitable and useful? Which one has the most job prospects? What is the most convenient major to take right now in this economic state?
This is something lots of students ask and it really isn’t important. Would you do something you hate just to make a little more? Can you predict the future job market? Think about those who jumped into petroleum 6 years ago, because it met the criterion you lay out, who now, after graduation, don’t like it, can’t find a job or just got laid off. You’re FAR better of to follow the path that interests you the most. They all pay reasonably well and the differential isn’t worth it to have a career you basically hate. Good luck.
It might seem that computer science majors tend to have the highest job prospects as well as highest salaries, but this doesn’t take into account factors such as: the rate at which the number of graduates in the major are increasing, your potential work location (the cost of living in CA is very different than in WI, for example), etc.
Most engineering majors generally have good job prospects. An example of when it may not be the case is when you have only a biomedical engineering undergraduate degree. If you do biomedical engineering, then chances are you will need at least a master’s to be marketable.
