Obviously it’s relative to each person, but there is probably an underlying strategy that can guarantee results. I am trying to clinch a low 700 on the reading. I usually miss a couple SCs, but I have a problem with the passages. I find that I get rekt by prose, whereas I do well on the scientific and historical passages. I get tripped up with the nuancing of the SAT passages, but I can comprehend the passages mostly, and what the author is trying to say
Sentence completions can be fixed by memorizing the words in Direct Hits–you don’t even need to buy the book, the words are already on quizlet as a set of flashcards, which is nice. For the passages, my method was to first take a look at the questions and underline the lines indicated, then read the passage and answer the questions as you go along (obviously leave the big picture idea and comparison ones until you finish the passage). This method worked for me and helped me get an 800CR score on the November test. You should try this out with a CR practice section and see if the method works for you; if it doesn’t there are some other pretty good CR guide around CC.
- learn all the vocab so you never miss sentcoms
- hold your answers to a standard of total verification. The right answer is in the passage, and even other answers that may be “true” won’t be found and are thus the product of inference.
