What is the most popular major @ rice??

I just want to know more about rice from "insider" point of view. Also, how's rice's chemistry/biology department??

i heard economics was pretty popular, but alot of people do it as their second major.

economics is def the most pop

all are excelelent depts wellr ounded school

The link below is to the "Rice Facts" for the class of 2009. It gives you a numerical breakdown of what percent of students are studying in each of the six "schools" (i.e. Social Sciences, Engineering, Humanities, Nat. Sciences, Music, Architecture)

As a Rice sophomore that can give you your "insider point of view," I would second the notion that ECON is definitely a big choice; also popular at Rice are history, Psychology, and Bioengineering among others. Lots and lots of Pre-meds here too.

I'm not personally familiar with the chemistry and biology departments, but my friends that are in them definitely have positive things to say (except for the dreaded Organic Chem!)

Good luck making your decision!

man that is a great page. there is so much info on there.

Haha, yes. That page's predecessor was my best Rice friend when narrowing down my list of schools!

chem/bio is really good

It seems like there are a fair number of ELEC-E majors; PoliSci's also really popular. A lot of people do Econ, but that's usually as a second major. I also know a lot of Philosophy majors, but that's more as a result of the type of people who tend to be my friends.

there aren't that many elecs. seeing as how about a third of rice goes to med school, there are a lot of bio/biochem majors even though quite a few premeds major elsewhere. psych and econ are also popular.
