University of Georgia- excellent academics, especially for those in the Honors program.

I would also consider the University of Arizona, UT Austin, Furman, the College of the Atlantic, the University of Pittsburgh, Warren Wilson, Rutgers, UNC-Asheville, and Purdue underrated.

That "selectivity" at UCB and UCLA does not result in any better students than at UM. You just have the same 40,000 cali kids applying to all the UC's hoping to get into a couple.

barrons, not quite, but if you want to think that, I'm not going to stop you. Some kids do apply to all the UCs, but some only apply to 1, some to 2. Have any statistics?

DRab: I think its fair to say that the major reason Berkeley and UCLA have lower acceptence rates than Michigan is that there are a lot more unqualified and qualified students applying to these universities because its in California. California college bound students make up 10% of the nation's college bound students (That's why the UC system had such a strong influence on changing our SATs). It's no wonder Berkeley/UCLA get a lot more in-state applications than Michigan. Out of state, Berkeley/UCLA rejects a lot of qualified students because of their 5% out-of-state target making it more "selective". That doesn't improve the quality of school in my opinion.

BTW, I do not attend Michigan. I just don't think its overrated.

How is University of Chicago underrated? Can't really go much higher, can it?

Here's the thing with these kind of threads. How does anyone know if a school's underrated if you didn't attend it? That's really the only way to make a judgement, in my opinion.

I think UIC is underrated because I went there. I can speak from personal experience. I don't think its a great school, but I think it could probably compete with schools ranked 100 and above pretty favorably. I can't speak for Michigan or another other school, because I never been there (as a student anyway). I just commented on U of C because its like a top 10 (I think its like 6) school. I'm not sure how much higher it needs to be? It gets a ton of recognition nationally and globally...I don't think that school is an example of a "underrated instituation". I really don't think Michigan, Cornell, Rochester, and Georgetown really make the "underrated grade" either. There all extremely highly regarded schools and everyone knows who they are.

That's like me saying Kellog or Harvard's got an underrated Business School because they're ranked number #2 behind Wharton. That's not underrated.

Definitely a better example of schools being underrated. I don't know anything about any of them, personally. But they are schools that aren't widely talked about and further down on Ranking Lists. And Brown was appropriately specified - "among the ivies".

i'm sorry, but hamilton underrated??? its ranked around 15th, yet has a
1348 SAT average and a 36% acceptance rate. how on earth can that be UNDERrated? (and this coming from a HUGE nescac supporter)

BU acceptance rate=57%
NEU acceptance rate=47%

The difference in ACT does NOT justify the 50-rank (USNWR) difference between Northeastern and BU. BU also has no niche. Northeastern has one of the best co-op programs in the country. This is a fact that's been proven over and over and over. I would appreciate it if you did not dispute this.
