Is it worth it for me to attend? Has anyone gone and can tell me more about it.

I got the same thing in the mail today. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s supposed to be “prestigious.” I’m gonna go google it. It doesn’t seem that legit to me.

An expensive tour of the DC area that won’t help you get into colleges. It’s basically a scam. There are threads on here about it, I suggest you read them.

I got like 3 of those! A science/engineering, regular (I guess), and High school one. They are so fake and expensive.

I second this.

Yup, it’s a scam…colleges would laugh at it if you put it on your app because they’ll all know that you were fooled into shelling out cash for nothing.

Wait are you telling me this Engineering & Technology High School Conference is a scam? And featuring two of the tops 10 engineering colleges. And I really don’t get 2 college credit?

Haha it’s become notorious at my school for being a scam and useless… my friend went to it though, and she actually quite liked it. So if you get a good scholarship and have nothing to do, I guess it’s not that bad?

Do you get it in the mail?

All it does is tell colleges that your parents are wealthy.

This one girl at my school goes to like 4 different conferences each year. She thinks the conferences will legitimately help her get into college. I laugh at her stupidity.

Wow… you guys need to realize that NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE GEARED TOWARDS COLLEGE! If you’re only looking for something to put in your college app, then NYLC isn’t worth it. If you want to meet people from all over the world and have a great overall experience, then IMO it’s worth it.

A lot of people hate on these “conferences” because they only think about how they’ll look to colleges. Not everything has to look good on your college application to be considered a worthwhile experience, and this applies not only to this thread but also to the people out there who will inevitably make stupid threads like “What ECs should I do to impress colleges?” and “What race should I be to get into Harvard?”

I’m positive the OP was inquiring about the conference in reference to how it would benefit them when applying to college as this is college confidential. But okay, freak out, that’s cool too!

Lol are your parents administrators for those conferences or something…?

The conference won’t help with college, but it helped me because I discovered my true love at NYLC, and went back to school passionate and more mature. NYLC is a phenomenal experience.

Nah I just hate the mindset that everything has to look good for colleges to be worth doing. And funnily enough, my parents actually wanted me to go because they thought it would help with getting into college. When I told them that it definitely wouldn’t look good on college apps, they didn’t want me to go but it was already too late.

It’s basically a scam to lure gullible and/or wealthy kids into wasting their money.
