Elliott Smith is not exactly from LA, he lived there; but, he grew up in Texas, and lived and made himself in Portland, OR. If you really want to get a grasp of the town Elliott Smith lived in, you should definitely check out Portland -- an amazing city, second only to Seattle in the North-West (besides Vancouver, but that's in BC).

I used to be obsessed with Elliott Smith in high school; I still am to an extent, but now it's more of an outlet for nostalgia.

Still, good to know some other CCers have good taste.

UCSD people are pretty laid back, not much goes on and if you like to just take it easy, maybe it's the school for you. Academically, it's incredibly cut throat.

I'm not sure if someone corrected you on the curve. What example you gave is a SET curve. That means only a certain number of A's, B's, C's etc etc can be in the class. A normal curve would be whatever the highest grade on the test/exam being the highest grade for the test/exam. For example, if you got a 54% on a test (just an example) but the highest grade was a 72%? Then you did not fail the test, as a 72% is what you'll be graded out of.

UCSC is for those who aren't that serious and just want to hang fun, smoke and be aware about the environment (i've been there, i know people from there, really, all very much the same). UCSB is if you like to paaaartaaay (and say "party" like that).

If you think UCSD is for you, then go for it. The people there are nice, but wherever you go, people are academically cutthroat (aside from UCSC, I think). So prepare for a battle.

i'm a 2nd year at UCSD and i must say I REALLY like the campus, but liek someone else said IT'S HUGE, getting from warren (one of the lecture halls) to york (another lecture hall) takes u like 20 minutes if u walk at a slower rate. with that said it's still a nice campus, i've been to UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCD, and i still like UCSD the most, it's the most "relaxed" campus, just make sure you have a car if you come, if you don't prepare to take the bus everywhere.

Somewhat off topic, how far is UCSD from SDSU? Is there much interaction between the two? A lot of people have said the UCSD campus dies on the weekend, if it's a party or something you're looking for can't you just go over to SDSU?

yeah i was going to name the UCs earlier but didn't, but here's the ones i heard

UCLA- University of Lots of Asians
UCSD- University of Socially Dead
UCSB- University of Casual Sex and Booze
UCI- University of Chinese Immigrants

thetrumpet we're about a 15-20 min drive on not too far, i've been there ONCE, not much interaction in terms of friends but i do hear of people going there for parties but not very often. i guess we're just different types of people at the schools so we don't interact all that much, but then again this is from my perspective. maybe there are kids at ucsd who go there everyday haha i just don't know of any

So can anyone tell me which of the UC's specializes in large-breasted women with low standards? And, don't diss UCB folks. I've had sex with a number of them. I'm sure there's some immunology clinic somewhere in their bio department studying my impact on their student body.

Seriously though; I'm starting to fear my potential relegation to the purgatory of UCSD. Come on UCB!
