What is the point of non-transferable credits?

Hello-
I’m wondering if classes that aren’t UC transferable still count to credit count and just not toward GPA or if they count toward GPA but not to credit count?
If they apply to neither, I’m wondering what the point of them are?
I am a TA and a tutor, and I’m getting 4 units for the TA as an internship and 3 units for tutoring - but they aren’t transferable courses. Are prospective schools going to see them? I want to drop a class that is transferable because I’m at 20 qtr units right now, but I don’t want them to think I was slacking if these are invisible credits. Thanks

Maybe you like to learn about random stuff? I mean I know a guy who took a few Real Estate courses during his IGETC and major prep and ended up coming very close to a career in that field. They’ll still count in your GPA but that’s why people have a distinction of “UC GPA” sometimes on these forums. Generally if you have a B or something in a non transferable class, they’re not gonna care.

Non-transferable courses are not counted in your GPA or unit total. They will, however, see how much you have going on - 20 quarter units is an immense workload, regardless if the units from being an intern/tutor are actually counted.

In that sense, they are not invisible. Prospective schools will see how much you’re doing.

It’s probably better to drop being a TA or being a tutor in my opinion, rather than dropping a transferable course. But if you need to do it, then do it. Or make it P/NP to take the edge off (provided it’s not required for your major).
