i talked to my counsler and she said she reviews ucsd applications…so she has some credibility. well anyways, she said that the essays are meaningless for ucsd unless you have a “unique circumstance” that may have affected your academic career, (death in family, severe illness, blah blah). i kinda knew that for ucsd, but then she went onto say that the essays don’t matter much for any of the uc schools. is this true? if it is i am gonna be really depressed and a little angry at the uc admission policy. help me out. should i care about my essays considering the fact that nothing has happened to me that would prove to be detrimental to my academic career?

i think you should still concentrate your essays because you dont know for a fact if its true for all the uc's...i kind of think it might be for ucsd because their point system doesnt state anything like that and berkeley probably doesnt look at it either it seems like they look only at the stats..but i hope ucla does cause thats my dream school..but yea i think you should still concentrate on your essays..hope it helps

Essays only matter for Cal and UCLA if you're a borderline applicant. For other UC's, they can't help you that much.

seems helpful.
