According to the 2009 Princeton review, since this is all subjective.

I knew that would get a Holy Cross guy or gal going. I do admire their restraint shown in their post though.

Not only should Holy Cross not be mentioned on a ‘prettiest campus’ list they don’t even have the prettiest campus in the ugly town of Worcester. W.P.I. is prettier.

But let others judge for themselves. Here’s a shot of the gate entrance into Holy Cross from College Street.

ctyankee: That is not the main gate of Holy Cross but a rarely used side entrance but I am sure you already knew that. WPI is not a bad campus but not in the same league sorry.

Only 4 colleges were in both top 10 lists (in bold). Does Princeton Review really expect us to believe campuses change dramatically in the space of 1 year? :p

Brown is seldom mentioned in these kinds of threads, but it is very pretty with many interesting buildings, quadrangles and green spaces. It is also beautifully situtated on College Hill in Providence amidst the greatest collection of Federalist period homes in America.

Stanford is always mentioned in these threads, but it simply looks like a giant Taco Bell.

Wesleyan was mentioned earlier as having that “old-moneyed look.” To me, it is just shabby.

Princeton, Swarthmore, and Bates are all lovely as well

And I like Wesleyan’s campus, though I don’t find it "old money"ish. I find it has an unusual combination of LAC-coziness and walkable openness. Definitely not “shabby”, imo.

Nice Try. Holy Cross has an artificial turf soccer stadium. The new 1,320 seat Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium officially opened in the fall of 2006, for the beginning of the 2006 soccer season.

At Holy Cross is perception reality? I show a gate, ‘well it’s not the main gate’ Well, the main gate underachieves too but if capital T truth is involved this is the most used entrance by students at Holy Cross.

I show a soccer field ‘well we have a soccer stadium.’ Do they tell you that varsity sports are played on that field (woman’s softball) or that they host other colleges on that field (rugby). Nope, it escapes their mind at the time.

Here is how Holy Cross presents their softball field online.

Here is the heart of Holy Cross with the student center at the very center. With its speed bump right in front of the student center entrance it has all the ambiance of a Motel 6.

Those that make personal remarks in forums demonstrate that they are out of ideas.

Off-topic: I used to date someone from HC. The problem with being in Worcester is that you are in Worcester. So HC arranges buses to take students to Providence (to shop during the day) or Boston (for nightlife). I met this gal at a mixer at Emmanuel College. She loved her classes at HC and I have only heard good things about the academics there. Our next door neighbor’s daughter went there. She is now going to UWSTL for grad work. She loved her professors at HC. But as far as pretty campuses go? Let’s keep it real.

In Worcester, the trees go bare in November and stay bare until late April, thus you have about two weeks of beauty in the Spring before leaving for home. Yes, new fallen snow can be gorgeous too but if your idea of ‘pretty’ is looking out over snow/ice through the bare trees to the butt-ugly town of Worcester, you have found your school.

Back on-topic:

As many have mentioned, Princeton has a very pretty campus. Here is an overview of Princeton University:

In the US, Stanford and Berkeley are quite pretty campuses. Stanford is like a huge theme park. Berkeley has an amazing view of San Francisco and the Golden Bridge. Rice should deserve mention too.

But the one that’s considered as the most beautiful academic institution in the whole universe is the University of Cambridge. It’s more than 800 years old now and its past glory is still around. The whole town is picturesque and enchanting. You’ll have castles as your home and school. You’ll feel like you’ve been brought back to the past the very moment you step on the university town. It’s amazing!
