What is the prettiest campus?

absolutely . . . the key words being "done with some tact."

The first thing most people say upon visiting HC for the first time is "the campus is beautiful.''

arcadia disagrees . . . fine . . . but to say "completely unremarkable" is, as I stated earlier . . . absurd.

rocketogod,
nearly every thread on this site has people offering opinions. sorry if mine disagrees with yours, but i'm entitled to that. I think Holy Cross is a fine school. In fact, I applied there several years ago, and have visited friends there on numerous occasions. But I really don't like the campus. Yes, the landscaping is nice, but a college campus is more than paths and plants. And some might argue that the views of downtown Worcester are inspiring, while others may find them to be rather depressing...

I didn't say Holy Cross has an ugly campus, I simply said that I found it to be "unremarkable." Look that term up in the dictionary and you'll find that it means "ordinary" or "average." Surely claiming that a college campus is average isn't demonstrating a lack of tact.

Also, I must welcome both you and HolyCrossDad to CC. I hope we'll be seeing your insight in threads other than this one.

princeton review sucks, never listen to it because its based on student polls....

That's what I'm talking about!

Simple, mature disagreement done with tact!

Your response here is a far cry from "completely unremarkable."

I thought UNC-CH was gorgeous when I drove by. Just looked very new and clean. I also liked BC and Georgetown, even though there were beer cans all over the rooves of the upper-class housing buildings when they took us up there.

Cornell
Yale
Princeton
Bard
Tufts
Wellesley

Salve Regina is pretty gorgeous, right on the waterfront in Newport, RI.

Endicott in Mass is also right on the ocean.

Thanks for the welcome, despite our difference in opinion and despite the fact that I doubt rocketogod required a dictionary to ascertain what "unremarkable" means.

Since you obviously spend a lot of time on this site, and because I am a rookie in this realm, perhaps you can help me. If I would like to chat with rocketogod regarding Holy Cross, I don't believe I should do so under a thread that asks "What are the prettiest campuses."

Is the proper procedure to start a new thread, call it something along the lines of "Holy Cross Applicants" and go from there?

Go to the colleges section listed A-Z and find Holy Cross there.

Yes, as gellino said, go here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=217

You can start a new thread and address any topic you'd like. Perhaps Par72 can join in, as he is a huge Holy Cross proponent as well.

And I'd hope that rocketogod knows what "unremarkable" means. I was simply reinforcing the fact that I didn't mean it in a injurious way.

Dartbutt for sure. no bias

Swarthmore is really pretty, nice central green, Crum meadow and a natural amphitheatre. Vanderbilt is really nice too. I had been told Princeton was the prettiest but I liked these more.

The first planned campus in America is Union's. Its centerpiece is the eccentric Nott Memorial. Eliphalet Nott was Union's president for sixty-two years. For symmetry, intimacy, and charm, it's hard to beat.

I do agree that Union has one of the nicer campuses I've seen. Parts of the movie, "The Way We Were" were filmed there.

Middlebury!!!

Well, I think Yale is beautiful but I'm probably kind of biased...still, Harkness Tower at sunset is a very pretty sight

This same question came up here last year. I'll give the general consensus from then:

Prettiest:
Colgate
Pepperdine (and best location--Malibu, CA)
Rhode Island School of Design
Indiana--Bloomington
University of Richmond
Stanford University
and some people liked Yale (me, too)
and some liked Princeton (great location in my opinion)

Ugliest:
SUNY-Albany
MIT
Carnegie-Mellon
Rutgers--Camden (worst location possible)
University of Rochester

Many people also logged positive votes for Dartmouth, Salve Regina, Holy Cross, Elon, and some even liked Bentley College's newness, although I'm not sure you'd call it pretty.

Are u sure your not confusing U of Rochester with something else?

Maybe Rochester Institute of Technology is ugly? U of Rochester looks pretty nice.

Hampden-Sydney College
Davidson
Bucknell
Washington & Lee
Virginia
Williams
West Point
