What is the probability that I will get in??

Thats good news and bad news ... Look I am from a lower-middle class family so after I do my undergrads I would have to get into a job for 2-3 years and consolidate my family's position. After that I would join Grad School and pursue my research ...

Hmm, well maybe I'm wrong.. let someone else who's currently at an LAC or knows more about this reply, but usually one of the "bigger" and more well-known universities are better if you want a proper job after undergrad.

Will applying ED to Dartmouth be a good idea? It would go after MIT and Stanford but won't ED help my chances a lot. And I could always dograd from MIT or Stanford ... what say??

ajayc required substantial aid too, and he applied ED to Dartmouth, so maybe he can shed some light on this matter. In general though, I don't really think ED increases your chances much. It's more about convenience than anything else, really. It may help a bit by showing you are significantly interested in the University, but then again, who isn't.

btw, you seem to believe you will get into schools like MIT and Stanford easily. I don't mean this in the wrong way and I am in no way judging your credentials, but I suggest you drop this attitude, because if it shows in your application essays it won't be good for you.

Applying to a school ED in order to increase your chances is stupid, imho.

Oh yeah?? Well with as much as 3.5% chances of getting in at MIT wouldn't it be wise to apply ED somewhere? I really really like Dartmouth, not as much as MIT maybe but wouldn't I want to be practical??

That would be wise if you were sure of getting in during ED. You seem to have the notion that applying ED to a school makes it your safety school. If that were true, it would be even more stupid applying ED, coz it wouldn't make sense in later applying to MIT at all then.

Just work hard for all your RD/EA applications.

I am just tensed ... simply scared! I have worked hard, always thought out of the box, tried to do things nobody else would dare to ... and now all comes down to randomness ... thats scary!

Everything is random, you just need to push it in your favour :P

hey Thanks!

I know that I fit MIT and MIT fits me.

Just curious, how are you sure about that?

Just applying ED to Dartmouth to be practical & to increase your chances is foolish. Dartmouth is now need-blind - and just ask yourself this, will you regret the fact that you didn't wait for MITs decision if you get in ED Dartmouth?

Dartmouth <-------------------------------------------------------------------------> MIT

Both the schools are completely different. Are you aware you have to stay for another year at Dartmouth to get a accredited Engineering Degree? And that its BSc in Engineering and not BE? Look at all the aspects.

What do you like about Dartmouth?

I couldn't agree more. Just have a look around. I am not trying to be rude or sarcastic. When go through the profile of other internationals applying to US colleges you will realize that there are numerous students with stats comparable to yours.

Everyone else has worked hard too. Some of them have probably worked harder.

Your stats are fine, just have a look around at other colleges and ask yourself why you want to attend this college. And yeah, find yourself safeties too. The colleges you have mentioned are high reaches for anyone.

Good Luck!:)

Hey I get it!! And no seriously I wasn't being prudent or anything. How am I sure that I == MIT? Well I am. And always was and will be, even if they don't accept me. Yeah, I will the ED thing, was acting foolishly! I didn't know that. I had thought the Dartmouth name would give as good a job as en engineering one. I was wrong! Thanks ajayc and S33D!! Oh and btw, I don't don't think that I am some Nobel laureate with MIT eagerly waiting for me to arrive, I ain't that foolish!

Just wondering, what difference does it essentially make if the degree you get is BSc or BE, because all this while I thought most colleges in the states awarded mainly BSc's.

Nice. What traits of MIT do you see that match yours?

It really doesn't make a difference but when you look at the Indian job market - the indian mentality kicks in that BSc is lamer than BE. Just try telling someone in India that you get a BA in Physics at LAC in US. :D

Yeah haha that's true. Damn indian mentality. I thought after reading your post that it would make a difference in the states too.

You're planning on grad school too, though, aren't you? Or as of now, will you be coming back to work here/working there after your bachelor's degree?

Yeah! Tell that to any normal Indian high school kid! They would have a good laugh! In India, a BA or BSc is for fools, as naive Indians view it. But did u think I was really concerned with the Indian Job Market?

Well ... I think of the things that ain't and ask why not instead of thinking of the things that are and asking why. Thats why MIT is a fit.

A lot of other people do too.

BTW, you SHOULD bother with the Indian job market. Getting a work permit in the states is pretty hard.

Aren't you being too harsh? Looks like you hell-bent on deflating my confidence!!

He is just highlighting the truth. Confidence is fine but you need to know what you are playing at. He has been through the process and he knows what he is talking about.

If you feel that you are a absolute fit at MIT then I would suggest keeping that thought to yourself. You are going to get replies like S33D's otherwise.
