What is the proper attire for musical theatre dance auditions?

I'm going down to a college audition tomorrow and the first segment will be the dance audition. I recently bought jazz pants and a dance belt, but I've been told by a few people that neither of those are really necessary. Would it be alright to wear sweats with soft-sole jazz shoes and a plain white top?

The rest of the audition is covered with nicer clothes, but I'm just a little concerned about what to wear to dance...

IMO you can’t go wrong with jazz pants… you will look more professional than in sweats.

Lost of boys wear jazz pants. My S prefers shorts so he wears his black shorts, black t shirt (fitted) and his jazz shoes. I’m not sure about sweats i’d stick with your jazz pants. My S doesn’t wear a dance belt. He brought it once with his bike shorts but dropped in the toilet so…he went back to his regular shorts lol

I think most would rather see you in jazz pants instead of the sweats in order to show form and line. If you haven’t practiced much in the dance belt, you could use underarmour type or compression shorts. Our sons have used both, and have also used adidas sport pants that aren’t baggy. They have never auditioned in sweats. A non baggy plain white top should be fine. Break a Leg, Brayce!

I have read on several of the colleges’ websites “NO SWEATPANTS” so I’m thinking that for most schools, sweatpants should not be worn.

My S who has been dancing for 8 years says “DEFINITELY jazz pants” (dance belt is no-brainer w/jazz pants) He says "you can wear sweats if you want to look like a slob. . . " His words, not mine. “Merde” to you Blayce (dancers don’t say “break a leg”)

Every school my son applied to that has a dance call has specified no sweats and to wear a fitted black t-shirt

I’ve brought the black fitted shirt, belt, jazz pants, and jazz shoes to the hotel! I’m wearing sweats over them as it’s chilly here, but I’ll take them off before the audition! Thanks everyone!
