Procreation. You're here to make more of you, as all living things are. And then you have to raise those kids. That's really about it.

so if you have no purpose, why are you still here?
[/quote]
Because in order to not be here, I would have to die, which I will someday, but I haven't yet. I could stop eating and starve, I suppose, but that would be painful and I enjoy eating anyways.

Why are we so deluded and secure in our significance that we believe there is a purpose to our existence?

^ i don't think there is a purpose for people. people are an evolutionary fluke, because it's easier to survive as a one-celled organism. i mean, most species "evolved" their way back to one-celled forms, while humans became more and more complex. there are an insane number of one-celled species, and then a handful of larger animals.

but as for the universe in general, i think it was created for a purpose.

To be happy and have a good time NOT to ask questions like this

That is one question that I wish I knew the answer to.

Honestly.. does it really matter? If there was some magical answer, would we do anything differently?

^exactly - who cares!?!

The purpose of moon rocks is to reflect sun light.

Not really. Maybe the purpose of that particular beam of light is to reflect off of moon rocks?

The purpose of life is simple. It's one big test that you're being tested on.

life has no purpose. keep yourself busy. if sisyphus didn't have his stone, he'd go crazy.

humans like goals. they make us feel like we're doing something. this is why people like world of warcraft, career hierarchies, ...

Trick question -- original query erroneosly presupposes that there is and "purpose" (never defined) to "human life" (why human life? Why not extraterrestrial life, or bacterial life, etc etc etc) without any sort of justification in the slightest.

no duh it's 42.

I can't believe no one knew that

Noooo, that's the ultimate answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. Far more interesting than this silly "purpose of human life" stuff any day!

The purpose of life is to find meaning in a world where absolutely none exists.

To make death meaningful.

Death is stupid.

Wow, quite a strong showing of existentialists and nihilists on CC. Go figure!

There is no inherent purpose in life (expect perhaps reproduction). It is up to each person to create a purpose for themselves.

It is also 42 as unleashed fury said.

Answer\/
6 X 9= 42
^Ultimate Question

If by "purpose of life," you mean a cosmic, universal, divine purpose, then there is none. If you mean an earthly, mundane purpose, then it's whatever you want it to be.
