On some of these threads, I've seen posters bragging about plans to take down other students to improve their own grade average and I've seen a lot of posters speaking out in support of war. That's not the kind of school I was expecting Berkeley to be. It is more of what I would expect from a military academy.

Is Berkeley so competitive that everyone has to watch their back or are there just a few who are watching out for ways to nail their fellow students?

Do you honestly think that this forum is representative of the whole student body? That’s far from the truth. You’ll find that most people are willing to work together. I’m sure there are some students who are sabotaging their peers but those are few and far between.
As for war, I’m leaning towards saying the campus is anti-war. I haven’t actually seen a lot of talk about the war though. But, you’ll always find people with views that are similar to yours though so you shouldn’t worry about that.

Yea, the people on this forum only represent a small part of the student body. Most Cal students are friendly and collaborative. There might be a few students who are up to no good, but those are rare.
Berkeley is competitive, and there are both good and bad qualities associated with that. Most students try to work together and help each other to get good grades. Very few students stab people in the back for their own selfish needs.

I would say that the campus is somewhere in between pro-war and anti-war. There are a variety of viewpoints on the campus, some are similar to yours, while others might be completely opposite to yours.

I wouldn’t worry about other students trying to sabotage you. It’s never happened to me and the consequences if caught are severe for the offending student. On the contrary, most of your peers will be more than willing to help you if you ask for it. I think the stories of competition are sometimes way overblown.

Regarding the war, it is not really a big issue on campus anymore. But that said, one of the great things about Cal is that you will always find people who share your beliefs and passions and people who will be diametrically opposed to them. If you want a campus that is completely anti-war and shuns opposite viewpoints, then Berkeley is not the place for you.

Although I do have to say, Berkeley is NOTHING like a military academy, in terms of political views or just about anything else.

I see that Funfun is being followed by a ■■■■■. I doubt that certain responders are even going to Berkeley. The main ■■■■■ is encouraging Cal students to spy on each other and humiliate them. That ■■■■■ even started a copycat thread of this. That’s not what a real Cal student would do.

In reading through the threads, I see that Funfun picked Cal over Columbia. Wise choice. We could use more intellectuals in our class. Don’t let the ■■■■■■ get you down. We need more liberal intellectuals on campus.

I see I’m important enough to have haters now.

Even cooler, is the fact that your only 3 posts were all made today in the same half-hour range. Made in May, posted 3 posts in a day, could you scream alt account any more obviously?
