Interesting. Weird stretch I guess because both North and South of there is a very nice observant Jewish community where I’ve spent some time…

Btw, I’m not ignoring your call, I’m trying to find an answer to your question. One person came to midn but he never handles jack**** well so I’d rather find out if it is someone else’s responsibility.

Look at the Mount Hope area and how it’s a little bubble in each map, [Maps & Rankings: Economics](http://local.provplan.org/profiles/cw_mrecon.html)

It’s not that big of a deal and I’m questioning whether he would actually get into any actual trouble since it might come off as a silly complaint. Some a$$ cut about 100 people in line for the IFF Panel yesterday and I know who it was.

Brown is in a charming, upscale area. There are mansions and historic housing and other buildings on College Hill. The only grocery stores nearby are two Whole Foods Markets and a local upscale market. They are a little bit of a haul to get to, but not impossible.

Thayer street is practically on campus and is a busy student hangout area with coffee shops, pizza slice places, falafel places, restaurants, Urban Outfitters, ice cream, Brown Bookstore and more. Wickendon street isn’t far, with more cafes, hair salons, nearby bike shop, wine shop. Just a bit further is Wayland Square with more expensive restaurants. I walk to all these places when I visit.

You can walk right down the hill to downtown Providence which is safe. You can walk, bike or bus to a big mall with all the usual shops like Macy’s and J. Crew.

On the campus itself, there are blue light emergency phones everywhere.

My daughter has walked or biked across campus at all hours of the night, from studying late or being at boyfriend’s place. I wouldn’t reccommend it but she does it comfortably.

are there volunteering opportunities in providence for brown students? for example, is there a sizable foreign community where students go to teach english, etc.?

Specifically there is a huge ELL population in Providence (21.4% of all enrolled in Providence PSD).

Check out the Swearer Center for Public Service and Education Alliance.

Also there is BRYTE-- Brown Refugee Youth Tutoring and Enrichment (?) which is a Brown-sponsored activity that works with, probably among others, African refugee children.
