In terms of academics, athletics, extracurricular activities, and social background, what is the typical candidate for the U.S. Military Academy like? What is the typical GPA? How many AP courses did a typical candidate take? How many Varsity letters does a typical candidate have? What extracurricular activities does a typical candidate do?

Do you want a real answer?
A: Socially awkward.

haha.
I can’t really give you the image of typical candidate for USMA since everyone is so different.

I applied this year and have yet to hear back but I’ll tell you a bit about my background and achievements that helped me receive a MoC nomination, which is huge.

Avg GPA Weighted: 4.30
Avg GPA Unweighted: 3.81
SAT Superscore: 2080 (710 Math 660 Reading 710 Writing)
ACT: 30

I so far have taken 6 AP courses, 3 junior year and 3 this year (senior).
I have 2 Varsity letters (Football and Track), was in Football all 4 years.
Extra-curricular wise I am an Eagle Scout, President of a Red Cross Club, NSHSS Member, Commended National Merit Scholar.

I went to SLS the past summer and the answer above, socially awkward, is wrong. You must excel academically to be competitive to attend West Point, but you also need to be physically outstanding as well. Practice your CFA a few times and try improving every time. If you think West Point is an academy full of “Mathletes” you’re pretty wrong. When I visited, no one was socially awkward, but everyone is physically competitive.

I just came home from a parent weekend at West Point and found the cadets to be smart, athletic, well-mannered, clean-cut, hard working students. Watching it all for the weekend, make me think that every person graduating from high school should have to spend 2 years in an environment like this one.

In high school, many of them were all of the following:

Class Officers
Varsity Sports Captains
SAT’s well over 2050
Musicians
(And, they stayed out of trouble)

Great group of people to be around.

I am glad to see how we are perceived so well Thanks guys.
AgentOh2/ hope to see you during CBT
