What is the UCLA Campus like.

I live really far away from California and most likely will not have a chance to visit, but I have heard great things about the campus. However, I still have a few unanswered questions regarding the campus. If any of you who have visited or are currently attending UCLA can answer these questions, I will be very grateful.

I. For the most part, is the campus cohesive (all in one area) as in I don't have to cross the busy streets of LA to get to my classes? I've visited other campuses such as University of Michigan and their buildings are spread about among many streets with other private shops and restaurant in between U Mich buildings. Is this the same case for UCLA?

II. Is there a lot of traveling to get to class? By that I mean do I need to take the bus to get to my classes.

III. Are the dorms near the classrooms/dining halls.

IV. How big is the campus (I know kinda stupid question)?

Thanks for the help.

yes

no

dorms are right next to/connected to dining halls

it’s the smallest UC in terms of surface area but sometimes feels large to me since it takes me so darned long to walk to class (hills, stairs, slow walking)

I. separated from the rest of the outside world

II. some traveling; some people choose to bus anyways

III. cannot be any closer to dining halls, but rather far from classes

IV. just under 70 acres, about 20 minute walk from one side to the other

I. VERY cohesive!

II. No, most people walk. About 20 minutes to get to class. 30 in worst case scenario (say, Hitch to Pub Aff)

III. Dining halls are in same buildings as some dorms.

IV. If you look at a map of campus, it looks like a heart. Or a pork chop. Anyway, from one corner of the pork chop to the bottom right (South Campus) is about half an hour, 40 min’s walk.

i just went to visit UCLA for two days…so i’ll answer ur questions as accurately as possible. :]

I. the campus is very cohesive. so don’t worry about that. it is definitely all in one area…i mean. the only streets u have to cross are those from the dorms to the campus (if ur in south campus… then ehh u’ll have to cross some other streets, but they aren’t busy at all.

II. There IS a lot of traveling, but you do not need a bus at all. I mean, most people (by this i mean mainly all people) walk from their dorms to their classes, i gotta say its great exercise. don’t worry bout that, its huge…but walking isn’t that hard once u get used to it. (i almost got used to it in the second day!)

III. dorms arent near classroom, but they are close to the dining halls. DeNeve food place is like…@ the dorms… so like pretty much all dorms are on top of the dining halls. u won’t have to walk a lot to get some food (except maybe some stairs…which at some point do get annoying)

IV. it is pretty big, but from what i heard (over and over) it is the smallest UC…so it isn’t as big as Irvine or anything.

trust me, you’ll love it @ UCLA…i know i do :]

UCI itself is like a city…it’s so big it’s kind of hard to wrap your head around just how much land the school buildings occupy…but from what I have heard the only disadvantage to LA is the massive amounts of people in such a small area.

UCLA is one of the few places in LA where you can actually walk to places. Westwood village with shops and restaurants is within walking distance. Some of the classrooms are a bit run down but it is a beautiful place.

I. UCLA is like its own little city. You wouldn’t have to cross any streets to get from your dorm to your classes.

II. No bus required, but walking uphill/downhill is a workout.

III. The dorms and dining halls are right next to each other at the top of the hill. Classes are at the bottom/along the hill.

IV. I can’t give you an exact measurement, but it’s not humongous enough to get totally lost. It’s also the smallest UC campus.

It’s very cohesive. You don’t need to cross any streets to get to your classes from your dorms.

No, but there is a lot of traveling, though it is a good workout. There is a lot of stairs to go up/down everyday, which sometimes gets annoying. But if you eat the campus food (which is amazingly delicious by the way), you would need the daily walk to stay in good shape.

The dorms are right next to the dining halls - so you don’t need to worry about that. The classrooms are a bit further, but like I said in #II, you would need the daily workout/walk.

Its around 415 acres I think. But here is a link to an interactive campus map: [UCLA Campus Map](http://maps.ucla.edu/campus/)
All the dorms are situated in the western part of the campus, and the classes are scattered in the eastern/southern parts.

Ooops. What was I thinking. ~400 acres. duh. Slightly less than half the size of the typical UC campus.
