What is the University of Bridgeport like?

Okay, so I'm graduating from high school in May. At this moment, I am eighth in my class, and have a 3.8 weighted GPA. I know I don't have the highest GPA, but I'm basically required to go to a four year university because I have 50 hours of college credit (from dual enrollment at the local community college). I want to go out of state for school because I'm in Florida and I don't care for any of the schools in the state. I have my eyes set on schools in the New England/mid-Atlantic region. Because I already have so many college credits, I won't have to wait so long to begin my actual degree program. I'm going to get my bachelor's (maybe my master's) in journalism. A school I am very interested in is the University of Bridgeport. They have already accepted me and given me a scholarship that would cover the whole tuition (just not the fees). However, I am on the fence about this school. Supposedly, the city of Bridgeport isn't the best place (though I have heard it has improved significantly in the past decade) and I am unable to check out the campus due to the fact that I'm so far away. The pictures I've seen, however, are gorgeous, and many students ranked most aspects of the school very highly on several college review websites. Many of the students enrolled have GPAs significantly lower than mine, so I'm not sure if I will be challenged enough at this school. Despite this, the school is ranked as a tier 2 college, which isn't bad considering I don't have the highest GPA in the world. I'm just curious if this is a decent college or a waste of time. I like the area it's in, being so close to the city, and I like quite a few aspects about it, such as their safety programs. I would just like to know if is a decent school on any other levels.
Thank you!

This is basically all you need to know about Bridgeport. Avoid it at all costs. You will fare infinitely times better at FSU.

The fact that one of the “three notable alumni” at this school was a convicted car bomber also should tell you to not even consider enrolling here. Florida CC would be a massively better choice.

The university gave you a very generous scholarship because you have fantastic credentials compared to their typical student. You have to really think about what it will be like attending classes with students who are far less strong academically. Assume your profs will teach to the middle.

As for Bridgeport–it’s the least appealing place in Connecticut. Extensive urban blight, poor shopping options, a place that’s been struggling to get on its feet for decades, but never manages to do so. (H was born there, H’s father was buried there last year; I’ve seen enough of Bridgeport to last a lifetime.) I don’t know what attracts you to the New England/mid-Atlantic region, but whatever it is, you aren’t going to find it in Bridgeport. When you say “so close to the city”, are you referring to New York City (which is indeed close enough to hop in on the weekend)? Because UB is smack in the city of Bridgeport, not just near it.

I’m wondering how you even stumbled upon UB in the first place. There are more appealing options in the state–I bet Quinnipiac would be delighted to have you and offer you a nice financial package. Applications are due February 1.

Bridgeport was rated the worst college, google it an Bridgeport is the 2 n worst ghetto in the US. DO not go there
