I was looking at the University of the Arts for possibly Graphic Design and a minor in web site design for my daughter. Does anyone know how good the school is? What is the school like?

I visited the University of the Arts with my daughter who is interested in musical theater. We loved the location -- in the heart of the theater district in Philadelphia. It had a good feel when you walked from building to building. We liked our tour guide. We liked the facility. For MT, it seems like a good solid program, but not one that comes to mind as a first choice. That is not to say that the program isn't as good as many others.

The program reminded us a bit of Emerson, but in some ways we liked t he setup better than Emerson.

On the Musical Theater section of College confidential you might be able to find more but it might focus mostly on the theater aspects.

They have a summer program. Depending where you live you might want to visit it.

Oh and this my daughter loved the most -- they paid the kids whose dorms we visited to allow the visits (and presumably keep their dorms clean).

We visited the school a couple of years ago....my D is a ballet dancer who is also an outstanding student.

We concur with nytheatermom in terms of the location of the school, the tour, etc. The people there were terrific. My daughter decided that the opportunities were great if you were totally focused on the
"arts". However, the curriculum seemed weak in terms of liberal arts and science in particular. She wanted a much more rigorous program.

She never applied. However, for the right student, it can be a great fit.

NYTheaterMom, wow, that is amazing about the students being paid to allow their dorm rooms to be viewed on the tour! We found that most college tours did not include inside dorms (rooms) though we viewed rooms on our own by randomly asking kids if they were willing to show us their room (all did at every school ,though they would warn us it was messy..... I would always add "don't worry, I'm not gonna be telling your mom!"). But I was surprised when finally on one tour (was NYU where it so happens my D is heading), they actually included a view inside a dorm room. But alas, the tour tries to squeeze into this little room to see it and lo and behold, it is like a "model" room, that NOBODY lives in but some store outfitted neat as a pin, quite unrealistic, NO clutter, not nearly containing all the items most college kids would have so it certainly made it more spacious (though still a smallish room). It was kinda funny to me how it was not a "real" dorm room. It doesn't matter as my D has spent the night there in two different dorms (though I never saw inside myself). But while it was funny to see a "model" dorm room, your story really takes the cake with the students being paid to keep it "neat".
