What is the world's best college/university?

I’d say Harvard is probably the best ** overall **university in the world, mostly because of the strength of its graduate and professional schools (the undergraduate college is not quite as impressive though). Cambridge (UK) probably comes second.

As far as ** specialty schools ** are concerned, MIT is probably # 1 in engineering and technology.

I’d have to say
Princeton for best “college”

and Harvard for best “University.” -dominant in the big three grad schools

best college/university?

harvard for best overall image/reputation
stanford for best overall academic strength
mit for best engineering/technology
caltech for best professional scientific career path
cambridge for best traditional academics (whatever that means)
chicago for best liberal arts higher education
ucberkeley for best public university
williams for best liberal arts college

you may pick your own choices for whatever best means to you!

I’m gonna go with Blunt College cuz everyone’s happy there.

trust me, MIT isn’t the best for engineering… ever heard of a school called the indian institute of technology (IIT)? let’s just say that an average undergrad from that school could easilyyy go to MIT grad school

lol beardy

I’d say IIT. Many high paying/important jobs are taken by graduates from there, such as in NASA.

France
Unitarian
Community
Kollege

This college
Has amazing
Internship opportunities and is extremely well respected for its dedication to
Serve the world

It also ranks next to
Stanford in academic rigor

Students attending
This college are secure in their
Understanding that
Prestige isn’t the most
Important thing about a college. They know the truth–
Drinking is
!

Stanford or MIT. I LOVEEEEE those 2 schools.

IIT

10chr

Stanford, not because I am Californian.

four-way tie between Harvard/Stanford/Oxbridge

The University of Michigan.

I’ll go with Cambridge.

Then Stanford.

Then Harvard.

Then Berkeley.

Cambridge is really old, it’s really accomplished a lot. It’s tremendously difficult to get into. And it looks like a movie set – and often is. Oxford is not up there.

Tier 1: Harvard/Stanford/Berkeley/MIT/Cambridge

Tier 2: Caltech/Princeton

Tier 3: Oxford/Chicago/Yale/Columbia/Cornell/Michigan/Penn/Johns Hopkins

I’ll go with Cambridge.

Then Stanford.

Then Berkeley.

I would agree with you on cambridge if we were talking about a couple os decades ago. Nowdays Harvard in terms of research, famous professors and prestige is above cambridge.

Princeton

MIT

Berkeley

I never really appreciated how good Berkeley was until I came on CC. (Well I knew it was really good but not top 5 status) If Berkeley wanted to be #1, in my book, it would have to up the standards of undergraduate admission considerably, it has very smart undergrads, but I think they should get the best undergrads (like HYPSM level) for the level of the education offered. But, I’m not sure if that’s feasible given the UC’s “mission”.

Cervantes – that is normal as 98-99% of the kids your age are only focused on undergrad, and perhaps tangentially the big 3 professional schools.

Berkeley is really the king of non-professional Ph.D. level work.

Cervantes, which dorm are you going to be in?

When I was in Loro in '76, my next door neighbor had a 2" rectangular box with a toggle switch on the top attached to his phone (remember these are the days of $1.00 per minute LD calls). I asked him about it, and he told me a graduated engineering student gave it to him… that it opened the AT&T 5ESS switch to long distance calling for free. COOL!

I learned in a TV documentary twenty years later that Steve Wozniak had built that box…he told the story on the show.

^^ That’s the coolest thing I’ve heard in quite some time.

Or I need to get out more.

the best university of the world is the real world. a simple answer. from nowhere do you can get more experience than the real world :P
