what is their intention?

I just found out that I was accepted to texas a and m. I haven't received my letter yet, but on the website, where it shows your choice of major, my first choice was changed to general studies. My first choice was cellular biology, and my second choice is microbiology. What is the university's intention for changing my major?

It seems that your first and second choices for major were full. Therefore, TAMU placed you in General Studies. At your New Student Conference, see if you can change majors.

thanks for replying. Is it easy to change majors? i mean, i don’t really want to go there and be stuck with whatever else major there’s left. what is a new student conference, don’t you need to accept first to go there?

New Student Conference (NSC) is the orientation all new incoming freshmen attend during the summer to get acquainted with becoming an Aggie and to sign-up for your first semester of classes. They do give you the opportunity to change majors while you are there as long as there are openings (there are a few exceptions like the colleges of business and engineering if you were not accepted into those initially). If you can’t get into the major you want at NSC, you will remain as a General Studies major and pursue a change later in your freshman year. You should have no problem changing in a semester or two to the science majors you desire.

To complete your acceptance to A&M includes two steps. First, you click on the “I Accept” button from your AIS page and, second, you sign-up with deposit for your NSC.

I would be very surprised if you weren’t able to switch into your desired major sometime within the first year or two. Many people have no idea what they want to do and will change out of whatever major and into others. Other kids will get weeded out and open up even more spots.
