I'm going to rice in two weeks to visit. What's there to do in Houston close to rice? I like theater so I'm curious if there are any theaters close by. My family is probably more interested in good restaurants though haha. Really any ideas to fill the time not on campus would be nice. Thanks!

Natural Science Museum
Space Center Houston
A lot of restaurants
Museum of fine arts

The Alley Theatre is about 16 minutes away from Rice.

Okay thanks for the ideas!

Thanks for the ideas guys

Go ice skating in the Galleria.

When I went to visit last year, my mom and I spent a few days there. There’s all sorts of cool restaurants, and if you have a car, you can explore Houston. We went to the Alley Theatre and saw a show, right now Agatha Cristie’s “The Hollow” is playing until August 4th. Wicked is also playing at the Hobby Center (though it might be hard to get tickets, or the price range might be a little high). Also, the museum district surrounds Rice. The Museum of Fine Arts (MFAH) and Natural Science museum are really cool, definitely worth checking out. If you’re into sports, the Astros will probably have some games during your visit. There’s always live music and of course, there’s shopping in the Galleria or at Rice Village (which has some awesome restaurants and cupcake shops). There is so much to do in Houston and it’s a dynamic city with lots of cool stuff happening all the time.

Tons of fairly cheap eats in Houston- Mexican food is legendary (my favs are Irma’s near the ball park and Ninfa’s. Rice Village is very close to campus and has a lot of places to eat. Galleria is known for its shopping.

Thank, I’m definitely going to try out some of these ideas.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned this. There is the Houston Zoo right by Rice. Also check out Rice Village for shopping/dining, since it’s literally just off campus.

Rice happens to be located in the one of the nicest areas in Houston.

We visited last month and really enjoyed walking around Rice Village. It was great that it was right off campus and had a bunch of good restaurants and shops. We didn’t explore Houston more widely though. Campus is beautiful-- enjoy!
