ps don't worry bout rich ppl cuz the kids I know who are spoiled are very seldom stuck up so if sum1 reading this is worrying about that don't. But do be ready to meet people who are insannnnely rich. That's not the majority of ppl tho so don't worry haha

is there a j.crew at the pyramid mall? :-D

no, you'll have to travel about 45-50 minutes north for a J.Crew store.

Is it common practice for Cornellians to strike up conversations with people they don't know (say in the dining hall, social events or whatever), or do most people stick to their "groups"?

people are very outgoing at first. It cools down as groups form, but people are still pretty open year round...

do people get stuck in cliques? like are some people friends with people from several different social groups? What do people who do not want to party constantly do?

there's 13,000 undergrads, it's kind of hard to generalize the social scene: there's cliques, nerds, jocks, party animals, brats, etc. Your "group" of friends is up to you.

freshman year, people mainly hang out with people on their floor

i dont even know the person who lives next to me. i know like 2 names from everyone on my floor, and i live in donlon. hurray

I don't really hang out with the people on my floor. my best friend is a girl that i met on facebook before I went to school--and my roommate and I get along realllllly well. Other than that, I met people in my classes.

Here's the stores that are available at Pyramid Mall:
The Shops at Ithaca Mall Store Directory!

every single clothes store?
and you call bonton and sears department stores?

the carousel mall is so much better, alot of people do day trips there when they are in desperate need.

You can't say that people here are in general "very outgoing" (or "very shy" or "very nerdy.") A great deal of your experience here depends on who you live near your freshman year, which is of course a total wildcard. There are a great variety of people here. Most of them just happen to be smart, but smart doesn't dictate who they are and how they act whatsoever. Intelligence isn't a characteristic- it's just an attribute.

you'll end up on the right floor with the right people freshman year and you'll feel like it was predestined for a reason.

^ even if that doesn't happen, you have to remember everyone is in the same boat and they are open to other people because they are looking for friends too. i've heard it starts to get cliquey after rush when people realize how their social circles are changing because they got a bid from ABC sorority/XYZ frat

thats not really true. one of the best things about cornells size is that its impossible for it to be completely cliquey. im very involved in greek life, and i associate with people outside of my sorority and outside of the my favorite fraternities, etc. id say that cornell is a little more divided by greeks vs. non-greeks as opposed to divisions within each house in relation to others.

uh thats pretty much what i said

i interpreted what you said as like, because so and so is in xyz sorority/frat, he/she doesnt associate with so and so in another sorority/frat. im saying its more generalized as greeks mostly hanging out with greeks ad non-greeks mostly sticking with non-greeks.

oh yeah i meant people going greek when their friends are not
