My son has been accepted at URI and we have visited twice and attended Accepted Student’s Day. When we traveled off campus to find any town/community life we found none. Did we miss something? We were hoping for places to go see live music, maybe some shops , small restaurants and other fun things to do. I understand you can head to Narragansett and Newport but we were looking for more of a weekly outing type of situation close to campus. Anything that can be shared would be helpful info. Thanks!
RI resident. Not much. But city bus can take him to Providence from campus. Providence is full of activities. Kingstown is a very small and sparsely populated area. Under 2 square miles. Really, the transportation system is good enough that he can see all the state within his time at URI. Can easily go downtown Providencd or to Warwick (half a bus ride) after classes on a weekday. After touring several schools this summer, my daughter’s top choice is URI. We live in an urban area and I am worried that Kingston may eventually get too quiet for her. Any input on the social life or proximity to activities off campus would be helpful. I thought she would be more interested in a city school, but I think she is looking for a change. Thank you!
