In many courses the instructors have students register one of these devices for use in quizzes and attendance. The wireless device registers your answers.

its one of those things they make you buy so you can spend even more money and they can control you even more so you can't skip classes...what b.s., it looks like a handheld remote and cost an arm and a leg.

Well at least after buying it once, it was used for three different courses so far. They use it at many universities, not just FSU.

i know im just still upset over the fact that professors dont have any sympathy sometimes when assigning things to buy..example spent over 300 on one class and we only used 1 of the 4 books, now i can't resell 3 of them and the two i can resell all there giving me is $40, when i know the bookstore will turn around and sell them for atleast 60 each. its just really not fair for the students, in my opinion.

We try to buy used books at amazon.com or half.com as much as possible.
In fact, you can look up the books for Spring 2008 today at both Bill's Bookstore and the University Bookstore.
Use Cheap Textbooks, Used College Textbooks, Used College Books, Discount Textbooks! to find the best price but be careful to get the right edition.
We also sell the books through amazon.com when he is done with them if the bookstore won't buy them back or won't give him enough money.

The Florida 100% Bright Futures is only going to give $225 towards books next semester instead of $300. $300 is not even close to enough for books but some classes like ECO2023/ECO2013 make you pay for special course web site access too. Also some have "custom" FSU packages or have SAM software keys required to be purchased NEW and a memory stick.

yup..cgs2060, or computer literacy, fsu edition book with A sam key cost about 120 and can't be resold.

Anyways thanks cybermom i'm going to try and resell the books on my own, because the bookstore is just a ripoff.

USPS Media Mail is usually the least expensive way to ship the books and buy a large padded envelope. It pays to get a Delivery Confirmation Receipt tracking number so you can prove that the book was delivered. Amazon will automatically create a packing slip for you to slip in with the book.

They are using the PRS in my son's marketing class this semester too. So it was worth the money because it has been used in 4 different classes so far. You can buy it at Amazon for about $35-$40.

It does seem the main use of the PRS is to encourage students not to cut large lecture hall courses by giving frequent quizzes with it.
