today, i got a mail about a reception around April. It's not the sunday weekend thing, but something different. the letter says 'opportunity to formally talk with faculty and students', and the available dates are either monday or friday. What does this letter mean in terms of admissions?

I got it too. I think we're accepted to the CAS! The dates of the receptions are in early-mid April, which is AFTER decisions are made and released to applicants. Why inform students now of a reception if they were rejected?

congratulations!

(if this is sent to everyone, uh...lol)

I wondered about that possibility as well. What if all people who applied to NYU got this invitation?

That's what I was thinking, but think about it this way: if they sent this letter to ALL applicants, that means even the rejected applicants get this reception. Now why would someone go to a reception if it's already decided that it is not possible for him/her to enroll at NYU?

I can be wrong, but because of the dates of the reception (mid-April), this most likely means an acceptance to CAS.

I didn't get it. Where do you two live?

I'm from New York City.
My friend also got one, but I'd say we're both "qualified" students, although quality is definitely subjective.

I don't think it's just for New Yorkers because there's instructions on how to get to NYU (including airport information).

Well New Yorkers would probably get the letters first, as they're the closest to the University. Hoping I get one...

Do we know if all admitted students get an invite, or is this similar to the Sunday in the Square stuff?

I got it and I'm from New York City too

Maybe it's just a regular open house for all incoming freshmen?

OH MY!!! :) I hope I get one!

Did anyone call to see if it means you're admitted? The website doesn't offer any clue as to if you are or not

has anyone checked old threads?? i can't seem to find any...

I'm calling right now.

Edit: Okay, I think they're only available from 9 AM - 5 PM, so we missed them!

I'm pretty sure that what people are recieving now is "University Day" which, for anyone too lazy to click the link, means that you're not as amazing as "Sunday at the Square", but you're still accepted and a notch above the regular admitees. If you don't get anything, that doesn't mean you won't still get an acceptance letter.

Nope, I don't think it's for University Day, but rather for the College of Arts and Science Reception. That's what it says on the card anyway lol.

oh...i thought that was what it was called.

okok so then it's Sunday at the Square>University Day?>CAS Reception..... :)

doesn't really matter, does it? ........ :) haha

BTW, on the NYU calendar on the website, it lists April 7th (The reception day) as the CAS ADMITTED STUDENTS DAY

I got it too! I live in NYC! I wonder what does it means!

"College of Arts and Science Reception"(a special opportunity to meet informally with faculty and students) 4/7/2006 & 4/17/2006 ( after 4/1)?

Wow... I would LOVE to get one of these. I'd imagine by Monday the invite would have gotten to my house, if I do in fact get one.

Yeah, I'm thinking that if I don't get one by Tuesday then I won't get one. Where do you live, omgitsjack? Just, like, the general area. I live in Virginia, so I'm not expecting to get anything too quickly...

i checked the website, but it says that the reception is on Saturday, April 8, or on Saturday, April 15. What's going on?
