What is transfer into the Honors college primarily based on?

I was accepted to CP, but not invited to the Honors College. I'm going to try to transfer into the honors college at the end of the first semester. How hard is it? Also is it based purely on GPA

I am a Mechanical Engineering Major@ Clark (will probably end up with 2 majors in Aerospace and Computer engineering or triple, with mech e...lol)

Say I take these 6 classes freshman year:
1) Calculus II or III (I'll have 5 on AP Calculus BC)
2) Chemistry for Engineers
3) Intro to Engineering Design
4) Object Oriented Programming I or II (I have a 5 on AP CS)
5) Aerospace Engineering profession I
6) Economics I

Say I get STRAIGHT A's--4.0

what will be my chances of transfer?

thanks guys!!!

I think the main deciding factors for Honors for incoming freshmen is GPA and SAT; I'm assuming that GPA has a big bunch to do with it.

Also, you really won't be "transferring" into an Honors College....it's a question of whether you'll be able to have the Honors designation on your diploma, by fulfilling the required number (and the couple specific) honors classes. I think the ability to take some pretty interesting seminar-type classes is one of the biggest benefits to the program. Just don't get too hung up on the fact that you didn't initially get in. It's not the end of the world.... relax and look forward to being a Terp!

vader, FYI it is called the Honors Program. It's not a separate school unto itself like the academic departments.

I would assume with a 4.0 you could probably join the Honors program as a transfer. But maybe with your extreme interest in engineering, you'd rather focus on the departmental honors program (this is actually noted as graduating "with honors" as opposed to the University Honors program which is just a citation). You could do both, but engineering is taxing-- don't forget about your social life as well :)

Just an FYI. For Fall 2007, Honors wound up with 200 more students than was expected. Because of this no freshmen were accepted into the program after 1st semester. The criteria for application is on the website, I believe the minimum was 3.8 GPA. The student I know had a 4.0 in the fall and what I have written was told to me by her.

while that is probably mostly true, i personally have a friend who transferred in after the first semester, so it is not impossible.
