To quote directly from their q&a portion of their admissions site...

Will grades be considered to a greater or lesser extent than in the past?

As in the past, grades and curriculum will continue to have the biggest impact on the admissions decision. We will continue to recalculate each students GPA on a straight, unweighted 4.0 scale for his or her 10th- and 11th-grade academic courses. We will continue to consider the strength of the students curriculum for 912th grades.

The site also notes that...

How will race factor into the new process?

Academic factors are the first and overriding criteria. Other factors will be considered, but the applicant must, under all circumstances, demonstrate the ability to succeed at and contribute to the University. Race will be only one of many additional factors taken into consideration during the review process, as will socioeconomic factors, geography, and special or unique experiences, skills and talents. All the factors we will use in the review process will be in the overall context of individualized consideration of each application. Furthermore, every student will have the opportunity to highlight his or her own special and unique qualities that will contribute to the overall diversity of the class. Multiple reviews by different staff members and validation by management staff will ensure that no single, nonacademic factor has a disproportionate impact on the overall admissions decision.

heres the site if you want to take a look your self...

so basically...high school grades and curriculum are given extra consideration but they arent the end all be all of the review process....hope this helps

From my experience, it seems like Michigan places a disproportionate emphasis on grades and course strength. This kind of screws you if goto a really difficult school, even though you clearly have the capacity to suceed as evidenced by your test scores.

Runner so your saying pretty much I lost because I go to a hard school with a bunch of overachievers?

I have no idea who you are non-chalant; I was speaking in a general sense.

But, I do think it hurts you if you goto a really good competitive school. Especially if Umich isn't very familiar with the school.

OMG! how about if there are 13 people who got non-F but there are 16 people got 5 in the AP CAL AB.

Hint: sits w/you during lunch on even days. senior, lots of acne, and speaks mandarin w/Northeastern accent. welcome to the U-Mich forum! As you can see, I am a long time member of this board so allow me to be your host! lol
你好!

順圖!! haha, so nice to meet you here!

people say that michigan is disproportionate, but from my standpoint, i was from a very competitive public high school with one of the best IB programs in the country, and i wasn't even IB. and that was only one year. my other years were spent at the most elite prep school in the area. my gpa was a 3.45 but i had strong classes (i total 8 aps). practically no one ever applies to michigan from both my public school and my prep school. so my personal experience is, if you're legit and have a nice well rounded app, they'll still admit you. i had solid sat scores and some really good ec's. they made up for my competitive school and my low gpa.

People might seek, stalk and murder me. Don't you know online predators are dangerous? lol
