So i live in va and i kno that uva is a good school and all but unc, chapel hill was my first choice. but i heard it is hard to get into unc as OOS and i would have a better shot a getting in at UVA. i just want to compare the two and see which has a better social life, city, college town, parties, and all that good stuff because i already know they are both very good academically.

oh and also about the diversity,

UNC certainly has a better basketball team.

They’re pretty comparable on multiple levels. Both have beautiful campuses (with a very slight edge to UVA), both have good college towns (but again with an edge to UVA), and both have decent social atmospheres. With that said, I still like UNC better, for a reason that I can’t explain.

From my limited experience with both if you like UNC you’d probably like UVA too. They’re very similar.

UNC also has a better football team.

They know how to spell their own state name in ‘Virgina.’ I can tell you that much…

They are mirror images of each other. The only difference is Virginia has more “attitude”.

UNC also has a better soccer team.

Better in football only very, very recently, lol. But yeah.

To me, UVA feels more like a private school compared to UNC. That’s pretty subjective though. I also think UVA has a more interesting history and more distinct educational philososophy, which plays more into its student culture.

I completely disagree that they are mirror images. There are a lot of similarities, but they are definitely different types of institutions.

One thing clearly evident at both schools is how much the students love their respective university. I think that’s probably the best part about both.

UNC also has prettier girls.

Oh, c’mon…

Maybe so, but Carolina is older. ;)

I’d say location is the biggest difference between them. Carolina is located in a great college town, with its biggest rival only 8 miles away. NC State and Raleigh are also located within a 20-30 minute drive. Charlottesville is nice, but it’s comparatively isolated.

Athletic pride (and perhaps school pride) is more intense at Carolina. Halloween on Franklin and the celebrations after the NCAA wins are almost unparalleled in size and energy.

But the girls are most important.

Well, I’d be happy to work in Chapel Hill, but I’d retire to Charlottesville. That’s the difference to me.

Okay, you made me look it up – UVA beat UNC last year.

UVA also beat UNC in Soccer!

Hey, stop making things up :)

But we made it to a bowl in football.

We made it to the championship in soccer.

Yeah, but u can’t really effectively claim to be better than a team that beats you in head to head competition.

Sure I can.

“UNC also has a better football team”

It’s amazing how UNC has a 14 game losing streak, which started in 1981, at Scott Stadium - especially since “UNC (also) has a better football team”…
