What is uc transferable gpa

Is UC transferable gpa only the gpa from courses taken at a California Community College? I had an F in a course taken back at my community college in Colorado but got an A in the course at byu online. I also have a C grade from a history class in Colorado. Will these be on my uc transferable gpa or not? I have 57 units at community college with a 3.73 gpa- just hoping this is the gpa ucsd and cal will use. FYI these "bad" grades were from when I was 17 and now I am 24.

Your UC transferable GPA is the GPA that is calculated from classes that can transfer to a UC school. For instance if you take a pre-algebra class at your community college it will not transfer and will not be counted in your UC transferable GPA. Classes that are usually not transferable are remedial classes or classes for certain certifications.

You must report all transcripts from your previous instituions. If the classes you took are considered transferable they will be included in your GPA, but either way you must still submit those transcripts.

Thanks for the reply! If I retook a course that i received a bad grade in at another school (byu) does it replace my F grade with the new grade of an A on my gpa? Or does the new grade have to be at the same school that the unsatisfactory grade was in?

That is a tough one! That really depends on your community college and whether or not they even do academic renewal. Even if they do, it may not replace the grade at your former institution. The best thing to do would be to ask a counselor at your school or look at their website regarding academic renewal.

I really only care if it is replaced on my gpa for my uc application. From my understanding they take your new grade over the old F grade for gpa consideration. My question is if it will matter to the uc if it was from a different institution. I appreciate your help!

Your situation’s a little tricky. Typically, the institution doesn’t matter as long as the curriculum is the same. So, if both courses covered the same topics they “should” be equivalent for the UC’s. That being said, it’s pretty much going to be a judgement call by the admission officer reviewing your application whether those two courses are equivalent. If they decide it isn’t you’ll likely have both the F and the new grade factored into your UC transferable GPA. If it is then it will replace the F and it will be as if only the new grade is counted. It’s something that’s a bit hard to predict.

There’s more certainty with equivalent courses taken at similar institutions, for example, two CCs in the same college district. With two institutions at separate levels and obviously not with any sort of district the curriculum is more probably likely to deviate. The best you can do is look at the topics covered in each class and the courses descriptions in the catalog and try and guess what the UC officer will think.

Thanks for the responses guys! I guess there is no way for me to really know my gpa until I am accepted :/

I’m in a similar situation as I have some course work from University of Toronto… with 2.88 CGPA :frowning: I sent an email to a UC Transfer Adviser regarding UC transferable gpa. (my CCC gpa added in with my U of T gpa) I’ll let you know when she responds. :)

Thanks Doctor, what UC’s did you apply to? Hopefully they really only count our ccc gpa for admissions! I think it might be variable by campus though…

This is actually my first year in CCC so I am not yet eligible for a junior transfer. :S But, I’ve been hearing stories of reverse transferring from CSU or other 4-year schools to CCC then transferring to UC so it got me wondering haha. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive a reply from the transfer adviser. And yes! here’s to hopes that they will put higher emphasis in our most recent course work!

I think they will for sure like that we have an upward grade trend, I just hope they can look past the grades from back then.
