What is UCR like?

So i will be attending ucr in the fall of 2014 and I was pretty much had a couple questions.

What are dorms like & which halls are the best?

Have you seen/heard of the dance team (highlander girls)? I'm thinking of trying out and I want to know what students or dance members think of the program.

what are the demographics like? I mean obviously i can look up the % of people of each race but like i want to know what the people are like. I went to visit the campus once and im not sure if i just went at a bad time but literally everyone I saw was foreign and not very good looking.

What about sororities?

1.) There are 3 dorms: AI, Lothian, and Pentland. Lothian has east and west wings. West Lo is old and dingy, while East Lo was recently renovated and thus nicer. You don’t get to specify which wing you want, so you are taking a gamble by applying to Lothian. AI actually looks pretty decent, and it is a compromise between price and quality. Pentland, the one I personally stayed at, is the most expensive option, but it is the newest and the nicest. Each hall has 4 rooms, and those 4 rooms share 2 bathrooms. The other dorms have more traditional communal bathrooms. Pentland is also more quite, but there are common areas, so there is social activity going on, it definitely isn’t dead unless the people around you are boring.

2.) Don’t know much about the dance team. UCR has soo many dance teams, it’s impossible to keep track of them…but yea, if you want to dance, there is plenty of opportunities to do so.

3.) The Hispanic demographic is probably the largest demographic here and there are a lot of programs catered towards latinos. Asians are the next highest demographic. Every other race is a minority. UCR boasts diversity, but that’s kind of a load of BS. As far as how good looking people are, that is subjective, but yea the campus isn’t crawling with hot guys. But you’re hear to study anyway, so not a big deal.

4.) Frats and sororities have an increasing presence on our campus. I’m not personally in a sorority, but if that is something you are interested in, you should talk to the sororities that set up tables by the bell tower. You’ll find something you like. Besides sororities, there are plenty of other orgs, sororities aren’t the only option to having a social life.

It is something waiting for you to discover. :)
