What is with the Princeton Review?

The Counselor-O-Matic makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, but honestly. Sometimes I fluff up my stats and see what it says, but even when I put in the cold facts (3.0 GPA, 490 on the SAT math) it suggests Harvard as a reach and Northeastern and Berkeley as matches.

If I ask on CC, I expect to be told I have a sliver of a chance at somewhere like UCSC. On The Princeton Review, it's apparently a safety.

So what's up? What is making it go so easy on me? First generation college student status? That can't count for that much, can it?

Princeton Review SUCKS!

I concur .

don't use that thing, it doesn't work

I found the PR counselor-o-matic to be quite helpful in bringing to my attention schools fit my criteria. However, the reach/match/safety rankings seem practically random.

Princeton Review is helpful in SAT Prep but their Counselor-O-Matic is extremely incorrect. A 2.7 GPA and a medicore SAT score can supposedly get you into Berkeley. -__-

well a lot of schools dont have all of their stats listed so when princeton review is comparing your gpa to the average there might not actually be anything to compare it to...so basically theyre just guessing

Yeah...that thing sucks. They suggest schools like BYU or US Military Academy to the same person as they suggest Reed etc.

i got into five of the schools the princeton review said were reaches for me. feels good, :)
