I have absolutely no explanation for your UF outcome when you got a likely letter at UVA, per your recent post from yesterday. You’ll get over your UF rejection, once that “big envelope” and/or that e-mail arrives from UVA …

“People have to realize that only TOP TOP colleges care about EC’s”

That is silly. Plenty of regional and “average” colleges care very much about extra-curricular activities. That said, I agree that work is a fantastic EC. It shows real ability to do something that requires concentration, intelligence, integrity, and selflessness that most ECs, all about the kids, do not.

Your ECs look quite strong. Sure, you haven’t walked on water or anything like that, but you’ve done quite a bit.

I wouldn’t worry about them. Plus, at this point, it is what it is.

Don’t stress. I heard a tale (not sure if this is true, but it was from a reliable source) that someone got rejected at UF but got into Harvard. It’s a roll of dice I guess.

^
Weird stuff happens all the time with admissions.

jshain, I never said I got a likely letter from UVA? I’m near positive I WON’T.

UVAorBust, then that does not look good … I thought FSU is a decent school, NO ???

UVAorBust - and if you don’t get a likely letter from UVA, you will do just fine. I have been reading your posts for a while now, and you are one of the most articulate posters here! A million years ago, UIUC was my dream school. I had wanted to go there since I was a little girl. My best friend and I were going to attend together, and I absolutely considered it a lock to get in. Weird things happen - got rejected by UIUC, but got accepted by Northwestern. I was devastated. I only applied to NU because my dad wanted me to apply to more than one school. My parents couldn’t afford a private school, even back then when tuition was in the low 4 digits. But, with student loans, I made it work, and am a very successful stay-at-home mom these days.

My point is that you are so bright, you will be successful wherever you end up. You do realize that, right?

theleakers, FSU is a good school. I just don’t want to go there for personal reasons.

Thanks Tamster. I’m just praying UVA comes through in the clutch.
