What is wrong with me???????????

TOEFL SCORE : 93

AP ENGLISH LITERATURE : 5
AP ENGLISH LANGUAGE : 5
ENGLISH GRADES AT SCHOOL : A, A, A, A-

Obviously, I can clearly speak fluent English; my competency has been proven through my performance in English classes, various writing awards, the humanities focus of my EC, or basically MY WHOLE LIFE.
I've been going to school in America forever and have no issue acting like a native English speaker.

Then I came this site and realized my TOEFL score which I took RECENTLY is deadly low!!!!
I don't get this.
What?!
Apparently score needs to be bigger than 100.
My little cousin who is 12 years old took the same test, and he got 117.
Will colleges be like ***?

comments and opinions needed.

Is there an opportunity to have the score checked or personally reviewed? What if you just skipped one question and started bubbling answers but on the wrong questions? It happens all the time in computer tests.

Can you look and see if there’s a way to get it hand-scored or checked for mechanical errors?

Relax. If you completed all 4 years of high school in the States, most colleges don’t require the TOEFL. Just don’t submit your scores and you’ll be fine!

Do you know why you got the score you did? Was there one area where your score was surprisingly low? Did you have a good feeling while you were taking the test?

paying3tuitions, is it possible at all to fill in the wrong bubbles on the TOEFL? If my memory doesn’t fail me, all questions on the iBT test are answered individually on the screen…

to add to that…
have u been reading books on cracking toefl??
if u’d go through a few strategies enhancing books… it wud add to yr score…

^^^ HEY GUYS. THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES!

to follow up,

  • yes. i felt really good when i took the exam. it was so easy, especially just the talking part, and i left really early. lollllllll reading comprehension was a piece of cake compared to the SAT Critical Reading.
i don’t think i could’ve bubbled it wrong… because like b@r!um says, yes it’s individual on the screen.

ughhhhhh i fail at life!!!

Did you take the SAT? A lot of colleges waive the TOEFL requirement if you score above a certain mark in CR (600, 650 depending on the school).

What were your section scores? Without knowing your section scores we can only speculate. Yeah, 93 is low.

If you have completed four years of high school in the States, you are exempted from taking the TOEFL at most if not all universities. TOEFL is a big ripoff. Why waste your money on it.

My ACT reading is 36 (SAT:800) and 33(about 740ish) for writing.

So a little update… I took TOEFL AGAIN, and guess what my new score is… 109. It still doesn’t break the 110 which, from what I hear, is the relative minimum TOEFL number for Ivies.

I’m not applying to Ivies, thank my goodness, but I’m still shooting for top tier LACs. I’m very very worried! Is my 109 still horrendously low? I do NOT want to go through the dreadful 4 hours of reading boring passages and speaking English like I’m in 3rd grade… (Do you like to travel? When teenagers be allowed to vote? etc.) I really don’t want to retake it!! Does Liberal arts colleges care about TOEFL a lot? I mean I’m guessing when they compare every international applicant file on the table, they start with their English Proficiency Level…

dddddddamn

TOEFL is a pass/fail test. Your 109 is fine (assuming you have no section below 23) as it’s above the minimum requirement.
