Hey everyone! I just found out that I was accepted into WashU, so now I want to do a bit of research about the school. What majors are most reputable at WUSTL? Also, how strong the business and engineering schools are there. Specifically, I am looking for statistics and rankings, with justification. I've browsed the forums here, and have looked at other websites (*****.com, USNWR, etc), but cannot find any straight forward information. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

What college did you get accepted to?
Their business school, Olin is ranked like 12 or 13 in the country.
And their pre-med and Med School is one of the top as well.

Their business school is #12 undergrad and has been rising steadily. Also their nba’s got #1 or 2 for job placement. The business school is a strong focus of the university and as a current business student I see the changes the school is making to continue to be one of the elite business schools in the nation. As for what washu’s known for, come and visit. You’ll like it. I was accepted to 10 different colleges and ultimately chose washu, best decision of my life so far. I don’t know much about engineering, but from what I can see, I think it’s pretty good. Go to businessweek for rankings. Hope this helps.

I got into the Olin Business School and the School of Engineering & Applied Science. Oh so I see that the Business School is quite strong-this is good news for me, as Business is my main focus. Thanks for the quick replies! Any idea which major at Olin is best? I was thinking either economics or finance, but I really have no idea what major I should pursue as of yet.

Olin is crap compared to Mendoza.

how would you compare washu olin to usc marshall? marshall is ranked #9, which means they’re essentially equal. however, usc does have that location advantage. what do you guys think?

USC’s locale is better. It just is. St. Louis is a great city though. Plenty of opportunity and connections at WashU (Olin).

But to show you how much that matters: Mendoza Business School (Notre Dame) is in South Bend, Indiana. And its ranked 1st. You decide…

“Hey everyone! I just found out that I was accepted into WashU, so now I want to do a bit of research about the school.”

LOL. You applied and didn’t do any research? -.-

@kiterunner18: haha i did research the school, through resources like magazines and forums, but now that I got accepted, I want to find out the specifics.

I didn’t apply to Notre Dame or USC, but I applied to UMich, UPenn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Northwestern, Duke. I know for sure that Wharton is better for business than Olin, but the others, I am not sure.

Keep in mind that the benefit of Olin is that it is so small, the smallest of the top business schools. You will have a freshman class of 150. Plus, unlike most b schools, you begin taking business classes immediately your freshman year. As for whether to do econ or finance, keep in mind econ is in art sci, but econ and strategy is in the b school and a great major for people who want to go into consulting. I am a finance major myself, so if you’re interested in ibanking or being a financial analyst, you should probably go finance.

Waitlisting students

also, how often do people double major in business and economics? is it easier if you’re already in olin or in arts and sciences?

I know a few friends doing it. I wouldn’t say it’s “easier” in either school, since all schools at washu make it very easy to double major in other areas. If you want to do a double major like this, it isn’t hard at all.

Mendoza is overrated by Businessweek. You really think they’re better than Wharton?
