what is your experience with course audits

I would consult my adviser, but I don't imagine her to be very helpful to my question. I'll probably end up emailing professors, but I would just like to read about experience from other students.

One thing I discovered about overloading in classes is that I end up getting stressed out, and I end up resenting all my classes. So I'm thinking about a new approach.

What is your experience with auditing a course? Did you learn much? Is it better to just take it pass/fail? Would it be an insult to the professor to take a class just to treat it like a seminar?

nobody has audited a course before?

I have never audited a course before, but my hallmate has. She needed to catch up on her Japanese so she could move on to the next level, so she audited one of the classes. She does study, and reviews most of the material, but she doesn’t go on test days or if she has too much work. Professors know that people don’t care, and honestly, I think there’d be too many people in a class for them to notice one person.

That might be a problem for smaller classes though.

At my school you’re expected to get permission to audit, no matter the size. I had planned on auditing ochem 1 next semester, but ended up with a schedule that didn’t permit it. The only girl I know who has audited anything was registered for a class, dropped it, but stayed in to audit so that she would recognize the material when she retook it. Most of the time, she does not attend.
